Airsoft...just discovered, become of interest, what to get?

I just lightly looked into airsoft and it looks really cool. I don't know anything about it though and I don't know where to start. Although I do know I'd just want a pistol that could carry a decent amount of ammo. Any ideas on what I could get and get some info on this?

I have a friend who is trying to get me into this. You can get some pretty good starter kits for pretty cheap. I'm not sure why you want a pistol. I am checking out starter kits for sniper rifles and full-auto guns. You can get each for less than $100. Granted, they are fairly cheap guns. Great if you are on a budget, maybe not if you are looking to get really involved. Look around. You can probably find a pretty decent deal.

Aren't pistols secondary weapons anyway?

I'm a fan of airsoft to. It's super-popular here in Hong Kong. Here's my little collection...

I'd thoroughly recommend Tokyo Marui for all round performance and excellent quality. My MP5KA4 is relatively small and with the 200 rnd hi-cap mag I have (not pictured) lasts a good while. It's one of the louder airsofts though due to the short barrel.

As a secondary, I'd recommend the TM Sig P226 gas. It's a real cracker!

The Sig and the P90 are my friend's.

My fave is my PSG-1 though!

2 questions...how did you afford the brand?
and why do you have orange boxes colored into where the barrels are?
 
because its most likely illegal to take the orange part off the original gun. (makes it look real) i wouldn't play with those wherever anybody could seem them especially the police or you yourself will get shot and or arrested ( if the cop is too stupid too realize that its fake )

but it is a good idea to take them off. talk about being friggin obvious with an orange tipped sniper riffle. hmmm.... that orange thing pointing out of the bushes doesn't look suspicious. :lol:

EDIT: After looking im am now very interested :eek: i found one thats sounds like its absolutely insane here

1. They're not that expensive.

2. Even though there is no orange on the barrel I just did it to make sure that everyone is aware that they are BB guns and nothing more as in Hong Kong firearms are illegal. The orange is just photoshopped over the top.

If you want an assault rifle, I'd thoroughly recommend the Tokyo Marui M4A1 Carbine. It's very well made and one of the most accurate AEGs from long range. I saw one being tested last night and it's got a satisfying sound too.

They discontinued the old model, but the new type is now available. There's a review of it here... (this may be the older version)

Too expensive for me...but that M4 does look nice for a main gun if I ever decided to take airsoft a step further :)

Man, terrific guns... I'm envious of the P90... looks like a fun CQB'er... how far does that barrel go back into the body? Should have excellent balance and accuracy for such a short gun, especially if it's a Marui.

Pistols may be fun, but a best first gun would be an SMG, as it would allow you to get in the sport quickly. Pistols are just for those fun end-of-the-day quickies after the big stuff is put away. Lousy range on those gas-powered ones compared to the battery-operated assault weapons. Still hurts, though. :lol:

Thanks for the comments. The P90's my friend's, but he keeps it at my house so I have plenty of opportunities to keep it in full working order. It's pretty powerful and like my MP5, the short barrel makes for some nice loud sound. The suppressor is mainly eye-candy but it does muffle the sound somewhat.

The iron sights are a little awkward to align and I find my first few shots to be a bit wayward. I find you really have to get the stock into your shoulder and lean into the gun. Once you've got your eye in however, you can get tight grouping from a range of about 30ft quite easily and at 900rpm it's also quite fun!

It's not expensive either and with the suppressed version with the triple rail costing the same as the normal one it's not difficult to chose which one to buy.

Thoroughly recommended!!

I've heard EBB is horrible for power and distance, but it is a lot easier of use.

Yes, the power of the EBB guns isn't good and the guns feel light and not very satisfying to hold. I have a Marui Glock 18C (my first purchase) and I don't use it at all now because of these reasons.

Would you consider a KWC Desert Eagle like mine... (Info here)

That's spring loaded...what's wrong with the TM glock? It doesn't have EBB I thought...

Plus with spring loaded, I don't want to have to pull whatever back each time I want to shoot, I just want to pull the trigger and it shoots (Plus the one I want has a full auto option)
 
Sorry, been away over the w/end.

Yes, KWC DEagle is spring loaded and you need to pull back the slide for every shot. However, it's got some real power in it and is chunky and heavy and really satisfying to use. Unless you were using it for a game where you didn't want to make too much noise or you don't mind not having Auto, then I thoroughly recommend it. It's accuracy is good too using the sights it's easy to line up and hit a target from distance.

The TM Glock 18C (the one that takes the x4 AA batteries) is the EEB one. It's the one that I have. It's very well put together, but it's light and lacks power (only 175 fps, I think). You also have to press a button at the same time as pulling the trigger. It does have a f.auto mode, but it lacks so much power that it's a fun but ultimately very unsatisfying experience. I love Tokyo Marui - their quality is peerless. But honestly, I've never taken it out the box since getting the DEagle.

I don't have any knowledge of Cyma and BAX BB guns, but the price is very good. However, in this market I really think that you get what you pay for. If you don't mind me asking, what's your actual budget?
 
Ok, I am second guessing myself on what I want now. :(

Gas, what do I need to know about it? (I am a complete newb at this) and pros-cons to NBB and GBB?
 
Manafacturers will usually use electric where possible, but due to size (motor, gears, battery etc.) constraints, gas is an alternative for more compact guns.

The other obvious difference is that you are going to keep yourself in stock of gas and if you use a f.auto gun then you're going to have to keep topping it up quite often. Plugging your battery into a charger is obviously less hassle too.

There are plenty of other differences I guess, but I'm not particularly technically minded. I'd recommend AEG over gas for the above reasons alone though.
