Ok this idea sprung to mind while I was looking through my collection tonight to listen to something while I was preparing dinner.
Over the years I've collected hundreds of cd's and lp's, some great some absolute rubbish. Within that collection it varies from easy listening all the way to death metal with pretty much everything in between except hip hop/rap. (Just not my taste) :p

This doesn't have to be a Rolling Stone top 100 albums type list, just more to show the personal tastes of GTP. We all listen to different stuff whether it influenced you somehow or it's some early memories of your music history. It doesn't matter, it's just your opinion of albums you think everyone should own.

Anyway I'll kick it off with three from my collection. I can think of many more but this will do to start.

folder-1.jpg

Beatles Blue Album.
While I'm not a huge fan of The Beatles this one is probably my earliest memory of music. I can remember my father playing this in the late 70's.
To this day I'll still give this album a listen.

Pink Floyd Dark Side Of The Moon.
Self explanatory this one IMO. If you haven't got this you should. At an absolute minimum you should have listened to this uninterrupted.

nirvana-nevermind-front.jpg

Nirvana Nevermind.
Nirvana's Nevermind ushered in a new genre into the mainstream. Popularising the "Seattle Sound". This album changed the sort of music I would listen to in the nineties.

Anyway add and discuss as you please, just remember there can be no definitive list it's all just personal taste. Happy listening.

Cheers Shaun.

Pink Floyd? An obvious choice. No collection is complete without either Dark Side.. Or the Wall.

Anyway, this
Judas_Priest_-_Nostradamus_-_Front.jpg

It's so different than every other Priest album. A true Masterpiece written by the Metal Gods to follow the live of. Oh I wonder who it might be. Hmm, nah couldn't be Nostradamus! :p

And this
1440.223077.jpg

Iron Maiden's best album, it has a perfect blend of metal songs, and progressive pieces. There is no reason to not love this album!

My favourite albums.... I think everyone should give these a go!

AC/DC - Back in Black
Tom Petty - Full Moon Fever
Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1
Billy Joel - Storm Front, The Stranger
Boston - Boston, Don't Look Back, Third Stage
Megadeth - Cryptic Writings
Metallica - Black Album
Quiet Riot - Metal Health
Huey Lewis & the News - Sports
Van Halen - 1984
ZZ Top - Eliminator, Afterburner
Bruce Springsteen - Born in the USA

I'll throw 3 in here, just to get started as well.

Lynyrd Skynyrd

Nazareth

My personal Pink Floyd favorite

PinkFloyd.jpg

Metallica - Black Album

Over Kill Em' All, Master of Puppets and Ride the Lightning? Oh well.

If I were to give a name to this list.. it would be, Blues on Steroids.

Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath
Black_Sabbath_debut_album.jpg

Most influential album ever.

Kyuss - Blues for the Red Sun
Kyuss%2B-%2BBlues%2BFor%2BThe%2BRed%2BSun%2BA.jpg

One of the best things to come out of the early 90's. All you have to do is listen to 'Thumb' and your hooked.

Electric Wizard - Dopethrone
41X51D6SMRL._SL500_AA300_.jpg

This album blows my mind very consistently.

Graveyard - Hisingen Blues
Graveyard_HisingenBlues_LP_300.jpg

Best modern blues rock album.

Here's a few I think everyone should have.
Pink Floyd- The Wall
51GtHoLrzcL._SL500_AA300_.jpg

Another Pink Floyd masterpiece, not currently in my collection as I only recently became interested in Pink Floyd, though I am picking up the Dark Side of the Moon Immersion Box set and the Discovery Box Set for Christmas. Hopefully adding the Wish Your Were Here and The Wall Immersion box sets later.

The Beatles- Abbey Road
Beatles_-_Abbey_Road.jpg

Probably the most well known of all the Beatles albums.

The Who- Who's Next
Whosnext.jpg

My personal favorite of The Who catalog.

Imma be different...

Arcade Fire - Funeral

Bright Eyes - I'm Wide Awake It's Morning

Beach House - Teen Dream

Radiohead - In Rainbows

U2 - Boy

Pink Floyd - Obscured by Clouds

I'm sure there are much more. But those are my picks for now.

John Lennon- Imagine
114.jpg

One of my all time favorites, couldn't live without it

Agent Orange- Living in Darkness
5112MWY3ZKL._SL500_AA300_.jpg

Underrated band. I swear I've heard so much "agent who?" when I mention them to someone who claims to like punk. Seriously, if you like punk/surf, this is the perfect album.

Bad Brains- Rock for Light
318CMVWMR8L._SL500_AA300_.jpg

One of the first punk bands I got into, still one of my favorite albums today

Beck- Odelay
51SWYWDSHEL._SL500_AA300_.jpg

Overall my favorite Beck album.

Fleetwood Mac- Rumours
10_fleetwood_mac_rumours.jpg

Every song is great on this one.

The Velvet Underground
41Zm71VKKJL._SL500_AA300_.jpg

One of the most excellent batch of songs you will ever hear are here on this album.

Bright Eyes - I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning

i'm_wide_awake_it's_morning.jpg

I'll echo Astrosdude91 on this one. This record marked a radical change for Bright Eyes, leaving the emo/indie rock sound behind and experimenting with folk rock, quite successfully at that. Everything on this album just works, it's an absolute joy to listen to.

Dead Kennedys - Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables

fresh+fruit+rotten+vegetables.jpg

As far as hardcore punk goes, this album is the greatest, in my opinion. There's elements of surf rock and rockabilly which make for an intense sound together with Jello Biafra's sarcastic and witty political lyrics.

The Clash - London Calling

The-Clash-London-Calling.jpg

One of the greatest rock records of all time. The Clash expanded from their punk rock roots to bring together sounds ranging from blues to ska and reggae.

The Libertines - Up the Bracket

Up-The-Bracket-by-The-Libertines_oY9SXEUIH0Qx_full.jpg

One of my favourite rock albums of the 2000s. This album is somewhat reminiscent of early Clash records, not surprising considering it was produced by Mick Jones.

Bad Religion - No Control

BadReligionNoControl.jpg

Bad Religion's second album after their hiatus in the mid-80s. One of my favourite punk rock records, my favourite Bad Religion record and certainly one of the most influential on the '90s punk rock revival.

I could keep going but I'll keep it at this... for now.

I agree with a few so far, Beetles, U2, The Clash and Pink Floyd

Here's my few
U2 - Achtung Baby

Killers - Hot Fuss

Coldplay - Viva La Vida & Rush of Blood to the head

Athlete - The Singles

Metallica - Master of Puppets

Tool - Lateralus

Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power

Some great albums mentioned here guys, most of them I have but the ones I don't have I'll get my hands on and give them a listen. 👍

Cheers Shaun.

I'm assuming you mean "Should" as a suggestion rather than an expectation. Because in that case, here are my suggestions:

Al-Di-Meola-Elegant-Gypsy-507651.jpg

Amon_amarth_oden.jpg

riot+fire+down+under+%25281981%2529.JPG

These are some goodies. Most of the other seminal albums have been covered.

Yep it's only a suggestion, sorry if there was any confusion.
As for the albums you have suggested I haven't heard them so that adds a few to my list of to listen to. Thanks 👍

Cheers Shaun.

Huey Lewis and the News - Fore! (Not a single bad song on that album) :)

Some more 'popular' albums that I suggest.

Neutral Milk Hotel - In The Aeroplane Over the Sea

One of my favourites, but it certainly does take a few listens to get to you. Probably not suited to everyone however.

Weezer - (No title actual, but known as The Blue Album)

Easily accessible, nothing cryptic, and very 'fun' songs. It's a shame that newer Weezer albums haven't lived up to this one.

tumblr_lkzdnufCMg1qa2258o1_r1_500.jpg

Weezer - Pinkerton

Similar to the Blue Album, but this is another journey into Cuomo's writing. Another Weezer great.

weezerpinkerton.jpg

Mr. Bungle - California

Experimental music at its best. Such a wide range of music to go around here, it's brilliant.

cover_1525419102008.jpg

My Bloody Valentine - Loveless

Again, it takes some listening to, and isn't very accessible. But it's still bloody brilliant shoegazing.

My_Bloody_Valentine_-_Loveless.jpg

Feeder - Swim (2001 Re-issue)

A 2001 re-issue of Swim, with a couple more tracks. Some GT classics, plus a range of other music that I love.

A few more...

Wavves - King of the Beach:

Beach Fossils - Beach Fossils:

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Californication:

Janes Addiction - Nothing Shocking:

Here are a handful of my favorite listens:
Rush-Different Stages Live (1998)-Covers the entire catalog from the beginning right up to the Counterparts/Test for Echo era. Features many deep cuts, and plus, 2112 live performed in its entirety!
31CPMTZD90L._SL500_AA300_.jpg

Judas Priest-Painkiller (1990)-This album just kicks your butt from start to finish. One of the best metal albums ever composed, and Priest's strongest to date.
465.jpg

Megadeth-Rust In Peace (1990)-This was a landmark album and a perfect fusion of thrash and progressive metal. My favorite album of all time.
0cd6040e1.jpg

Iron Maiden-Somewhere in Time (1986)-An absolute guitar dual masterpiece. If you are a fan of guitar music, Adrian Smith and Dave Murray will give you your money's worht on this one. This is probably the finest composition that my favorite band ever put out, with Seventh Son of a Seventh Son and Powerslave tied for a close second.
SOMEWHERE_IN_TIME_FULL.jpg

Iced Earth-The Glorious Burden (2004)-This one is another album that is absolutely phenomenal from start to finish. One of two Iced Earth albums with the amazing Tim "Ripper" Owens on vocals, it features Gettysburg 1863, an epic three part, 32 minute song recorded with orchestra about the famous Civil War battle, as well as 11 other fantastic tunes.

Metallica-Ride The Lightning (1984)-Shouldn't have to explain this one :D.
