America has become the home of quite a number of niche supercars, including the Saleen S7, the Mach7 Motorsports Falcon , and the Hennessey Venom GT. Now, the ever-growing list is set to make room for another American-born exotic in the form of the Alessi AR-1.
The model actually first made waves 33 years ago at the 1979 New York Auto Show and has since been dusted off by Alessi Fiberglass, the company that updated the AR-1 to meet all the technical and safety standards of today.
Among the distinguishable characteristics of the "new" AR-1 include a hand-laid fiberglass body that carries steel reinforcements at various stress points. Meanwhile, the chassis of the car was built from eleven gauge steel and welded with a tensile strength of 100,000 pounds per square inch, making the 50-piece American supercar as sturdy as they come. The AR-1 will also come with a number of standard equipment comprising of dual power side mirrors, a power-operated tail section, run flat tires with sensors, a custom interior with cut pile carpeting, a rear-view mirror with a back-up camera, power seats, and a tilt steering wheel.
As far as powertrain is concerned, the Alessi AR-1 will carry a Corvette-sourced 6.2-liter LS3 supercharged V8 engine that produces a stout 600 horsepower at 6,200 rpm and 580 lb/ft of torque at 690 lb/ft of torque. If those figures aren’t enough to tickle your fancy, Alessi is offering a twin-turbo engine kit that spikes up the output to a ridiculous 750 horsepower and 690 lb/ft of torque.
No official details have been announced as far as performance numbers go, but Alessi has estimated the AR-1 as capable of hitting 0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds, a quarter-mile in 10.7 seconds, and a top speed of 200 mph.
To top it off, the Alessi AR-1 will only be produced in a limited run of 50 units.
