The Alfa Romeo 179 is a Formula One car which was used (in different variants) by the Alfa Romeo team from 1979 to 1982.

The 179 made it's debut at the Italian Grand Prix, replacing the flat-12 boxer engined Alfa Romeo 177. During it's lifespan there were many versions and the 179D version was used for the last time at the 1982 South African Grand Prix.
At the beginning of the 1981 season, the 179s were fitted with adjustable dampers and denoted the 179C. A lower 179D was the next evolution and the final version which raced was the fully carbon-fibre 179F.
There was also a V8 engined version of this car, the 179T in 1982, which was used for testing the 1.5 litre turbocharged engine.

This car was the car who Andrea de Cesaris started his career in F1.

From Wikipedia...

Andrea de Cesaris
(31 May 1959 – 5 October 2014) was an Italian racing driver. He started 208 Formula One Grands Prix but never won, holding the record for the longest career without a race victory. A string of accidents early in his career earned him the nickname 'Andrea de Crasheris'. Though the nickname stuck, he became a more reliable driver in his later career.
In 2005 and 2006 he competed in the Grand Prix Masters formula for retired F1 drivers.

He died on 5 October 2014 after losing control of his motorcycle on Rome's Grande Raccordo Anulare motorway.
