At the beginning of the story that led to the Issima, two men: Walter De Silva and Mario Flavilla, from the Center for Alfa Romeo Style (Centro Stile Alfa), contacted Franco Sbarro and his students to order a roadster with the various characteristics of Alfa Romeo's style, including the famous triangular grille.
Sbarro wanted a 12-cylinder engine but there was no V12 Alfa Romeo so Sbarro coupled two blocks 6-cylinder 3-liter and the 12-cylinder with 500 horsepower was born. For Franco Sbarro, this is almost a routine, the Sbarro Royale featured 2 blocks Rover and the Super Twelve had two motorcycle blocks.
Walter de Silva, who at the time was Alfa Romeo's top designer, even approved of the concept's lines. Perhaps this explains why the exterior styling of the Issima is remarkably similar to the shape of the Alfa Romeo Nuvola concept - especially around the front - which was to appear only a few months later.
