Is there anyone on that forum that got all gold licenses using the automatic transmission only , or is manual transmission a must ?
I have only the B licenses gold, some were obtained with M.T. most with automatic transmission, some using the Sony controller and some the Logitech driving force.

No, I don't think that the MT is a must. I personally find it 10x easier to use, but there are OLR people kicking my ass all the time who drive with automatic. It comes down to which makes you faster on a personal basis.

Special License number 8 is the only license I had to use manual to get gold on.
All the others I got 1st time around using auto.
I personally prefer to do the Rally licenses to Gold pass using automatic over manual.
Also the A license test with the Camaro up the Seattle hill is easier in auto than manual.

Nah I got all golds using AT. However, now I have taken up MT my times are a lot faster. Really, MT is the way to go, it does make you faster. There are many situations where an AT driver simply cannot go as fast as an MT driver, and AFAIK there are no situations where the reverse is true (you can just shift manually at the same time auto does if that happens to be close to the optimum).

I asked the question because a typical license test in GT1, GT2 and GT3 ( I'm sure it'll be in GT4 :) ) is the 1st corner at Deep forest after the long straight of the finish line:
with the AT you enter the curve let' say in 3rd gear, then brake before the apex then accelerate at full throttle. The problem with the AT is that after braking it should downshift to the 2nd gear but irt doesn't always downshift so sometime you exit the apex in 2nd ( good ) but sometimes you exit the apex still in 3rd gear ( bad ).
At least with a MT I'm sure then I can downshift to the 2nd gear rigrht after braking.

If you are still fairly new to the game, it is worth it to learn MT now, rather than later. The more and more familiar you are with AT the harder it becomes to switch over to MT. Take it from me I know...I never started doing well at OLR until I switched to MT:tup: It makes the license tests easier too, as long as you know when to shift to keep each car in it's unique powerband.

Thanks for all the opinions.
I know what I'll do: try to get the gold in AT and when I have the gold with a specific license, try to get it again with MT.
