Has anyone managed to corrupt or almost corrupt their ps3? I have.

The way I done it was that I was on the Internet then it lost connection (the Internet hub did) then when it reconnect the Internet on my ps3 froze so I went onto the XMB menu and turned the power off (I made sure the HDD light wasn't on). So just before it turned off it started accessing the HDD then the ps3 turned off like I wanted it to and then it made the 3 beeps. When I turned it on I got a message saying "please wait" then it moved onto saying "you turned off your ps3 whilst it was accessing the HDD your ps3 will check to see if you have corrupted your data if it is corrupted it will take 2 to 3hr to restore" it started checking (only took 10 seconds) and it was fine so then I backed up all my games just in cace this happened again.

I want to know if this happened to anyone else if so how. I want to know so I know what NOT to do.

its a random thing... mine does it all the time. sorry ive not got much advice to give, but its always on gt5 or the internet...(and i definitely wont be trying to avoid them.)

Exactly that has happened to me too, but for me it just froze. The connection was stable, not good, but no major fluctuations. And I tried to open a message via the XMB, and it froze. I had forgot to back up for waaay too long, so I was fortunate nothing happened.

That's funny I was on gt5 on my dads account then I swapped over to my account to check my psn messages then I went back onto my dads account and on the Internet looking for things to do with gt5 then the Internet went turned my ps3 off via XMB menu switch it on and the ps3 is almost corrupted.

Edit: If this thing keeps on happening to people lets hope Sony patch it in a software update.

yeah, it might be to do with the cache, ram or battery filling up. everything just stops because it's full. if so, an unfixable hardware fault ( but only started happening recently...)

I never new a ps3 had a battery in. How do I stop the battery filling up and how do I sort out the cache and/or ram?

My friend corrupted his and lost everything on his HDD. His girlfriend unplugged it while she was sweeping during a save screen. It wouldn't even boot up, it would just say something about being corrupted. He ended up trading it to another friend who tried to save the HDD but could not get it to ever boot up again with it in, so he just replaced the 60 gig with a 250 gig in it and it still works.

That sucks.

every time you finish up on the internet, go to tools> delete cache, and maybe cookies too. i like to keep my gtplanet logged in through cookies, so i dont delete them. i block all the others though. the battery just holds a bit of data between sessions on the ps3, like wallpapers and themes. dont know if it can be cleared though.

That was the precursor to what happened to me in my thread, as you don't seem to have a problem you may not wish to read it, but it might be interesting so here it is;
