The Petit Le Mans is this weekend. The entry list is decent, though I was hoping to see more European entries.

The factory Zytek is here and will hopefully have the stamina to fight the Champion Audis and Dyson Lolas for all 1000 miles. They have two LMES wins this year, so I hope their reliability is no longer an issue.

The best battle should be the Aston Martin vs. Corvette in GT1, with the ACEMCO Saleen and Maserati poking their noses in as well.

Unfortunately, one of the entries I was really looking forward to seeing, the Horag-Lista Lola LMP2 has been withdrawn after a practice crash with one of the Aston Martins. Intersport has dominated practice, ending up several seconds ahead of anyone else, so if the car is reliable, they should walk away with it.

Hopefully, the Panoz cars will be able to put up a fight in GT2 against the Porsches. Either way, with the Alex Job cars, the Peterson/White Lightning and Flying Lizard cars, it should be a great battle, as usual.

Anyone have any thoughts on this race? Any picks to win? Any favorites?

Even though there are only 30 cars and single digit entries in most of the classes, the racing is as good as anywhere in the world. We just need a few more cars.

EDIT: BTW, (and this is not why I started this thread) for anyone interested in LMP racing, there's a LMES-style 1000 kms. race that I'm hosting in the On-Line Racing forum. So if anyone has ever wanted to compete in a realistic LMP race, here's your chance.

Let me tell you something. The wait between Le Mans and Petit Le Mans is pretty damn long. But it's about time the race gets underway. I'm likely to miss this deal pending going out, a good college football game (after all, I also do the commentary in the Sports and Fitness\Football forum). My big highlight is Porsche getting their LMP project up and running. If I never get a chance to see the race in its entirety, I just want the best teams and cars to win. Or in different terms, "may the best man/woman and car win."

I know you can dig that, right?

"may the best man/woman and car win."

Is that support for Intersport and Liz Halladay? ;)

I'd forgotten all about the Porsche situation when posting that first message. Yeah, it sucks they won't be there, but they're supposed to debut at Laguna, so hopefully that will be the case. I'm sure Intersport, Miracle and B-K are relieved the Penske/Porsche panzer won't be there this weekend. I almost can't wait for Sebring next year so I can see them in person.

"I know you can dig that, right?"

You bet. May the best team win. I just hope it's entertaining as well. (And the way the racing has been, I'm sure that won't be a problem.)

You and me both. Corvette had the Astons whipped at Sebring but for the brake failure on the #3 car and the contact with the Porsche for the #4 car. At Le Mans, the Astons had the legs of the 'Vettes, but I think it's fair to say their cars were built for Le Mans.

The one thing I hope the Corvettes can improve on for next year's Le Mans race is their speed. I'd be willing to bet the problems we saw with the Astons won't happen again. And if the Astons have a trouble-free run, we might see another 2003, where the Prodrive cars ran away with the race.

But back to the present, GT1 should be the best race this weekend.

this will have been the forth year in a row that the Zytek has raced in the american le mans(02-05)and it almost always has had a good run so I expect a great race.

P1: between the Zytek and the audi(which has had the most weirdest things happen to it lately), I'll stick to one of those two winning.
P2: sure hope that mazda is faster, but intersport looks to own this race.
GT1: OMFG! :scared: who knows?!
GT2: I have faith completely bestowed amongst the Panoz cars. the car seems to hug that track.

I'll cling to hoping that Dyson continues his string of victories against the Panzer menace.

In GT-1, this is 'effin Pratt & Miller's world, boys, and Prodrive will have to contend with Acemco being - you know - COMPETITIVE UNDER FAIR RULES as opposed to the hamstrung S7's over in Europe. I predict a Vette victory, with Acemco, Prodrive, and the Risi Maseratis scrapping for the leftover podium spot.

And as far as the Panoz hugging the track, well, Road Atlanta does belong to Don Panoz. :dopey:

hye guys did you see the start? lehto and shimoda went off!!!
I sure did. thats what happens when your addicted to Speed  I have to wonder why is that car is a winner in europe, but in the states, it never finishes?

Because stupid **** like what happened today doesn't happen as much in Europe. Un-frickin-believable! Do these idiots not know that it's a THOUSAND MILE RACE?!? That they can't win the race in the first damn corner?!? What should have been one of the most entertaining races this year became as exciting as watching paint dry.

I swear we must be cursed or something. Entries that are promising never show up and when we have the promise of a good race, stupid things screw it up.

The only consolation was the GT1 battle. At least that was halfway interesting most of the race. Happy the Corvette won. Let's make the score 3-1 over Aston Martin at Laguna. (And here's hoping the Arena Zytek team don't get fed up with the ALMS over this weekend and decide to come to Laguna.)

Yeah, these restrictor rules changes are getting ridiculous. It's becoming almost like NASCAR's managed competition: "we'll give you a break this week, but we're taking it away next week." Just take the damned restrictors off, let the cars breathe free and we'll see who has the best car. What's so hard about that? Isn't that what racing is supposed to be about?

lol i was there from 5 in morning to 11 at night. Too bad the Zytec was out first corner, because im tired of Audi winning for 6 years in a row...and the same for Corvette, even though the Aston Martin DBR 9s and Maserati MC-12 put up a heck of fight.
