Sounds nasty, couple of people in hospital with severe injuries...

TheSun.co.uk
Dozens of people were injured today when carriages on a ride at Alton Towers crashed into each other.

Thats the only bit of news i found so far since my dad told me about 10 minutes ago. Surely there will be some pictures popping up to see the carnage and what exactly happened..

EDIT: More news on it here, just updated: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/staffordshire/5198728.stm

The runaway mine train is what crashed when the front became disconnected from the train..nasty..

I'm going on the 5th of August with work, a kind of team bonding day. We really will be bonding if our carriages start crashing into each other.

Fortunately it was a mine ride. This ride only has a max speed of 22.4 mph (36 kph). Mine rides are typically slower, usually no faster than 45 mph (~72.5 kph). So at its worst it was like a low speed collision in a car.

With mine rides only implementing seatbelts and a lap bar it is easy to see how the riders got whiplash and/or abdominal injuries that didn't require a lengthy hospital stay.

I am willing to guarantee that this will be something that a mechanic should have caught during inspection.

See, these things don't happen when you train your mechanics and then pay them an appropriate amount of money. It also doesn't hurt to set inspection to every ten minutes. Oh wait, this is real life.

I'm going there to bond with my workmates on the 5th of August, let's hope we don't end up in each others carriages.

Interesting, now may the ingorant American ask where Alton Towers is?

Duh, where is Alton Towers at?

Oh wait, I think most of the ignorant Americans read in one of the links that it's located in Staffordshire, UK.

It's not important. All the biggest and fastest stuff is in the US. :sly:
