Always quicker with no TCS?

I've read in several threads that once you're a proficient driver you can get better times without TCS turned on. I've found this, until driving the Toyota Minolta - I consistently get better times with TCS at 1.

Anyone else found this? With certain cars are you always going to be quicker with TCS on?
 
Depends, are you using a wheel?
I find TCS=0 is always better for me now with a wheel whereas for heaving wrecks like the Minolta or 787b i always needed 1.

Especially with the pedals when you floor it the time it takes the pedal to move all that way seems to be enough of a delay to get rid of alot of wheelspin.

It depends in which track you are driving aswell, say the Nurburgring, its bumpy, you'll get wheel spin, TCS @1 will help the majority of the drivers, but one without TC will be faster, it will be harder, but he doesnt have anything limiting the car. buf if you try something smoother, say Monza, TCS will be better left off at 0, because you can get on the throttle earlier.

The main thing for me is to don't accelerate until I can see the exit of the corner, some people brake too much, accelerate a bit, brake again, unbalancing the car, which makes wheel spin easier, if you are having problems with said corner try lowering you throttle 1/4 of the amount you used, just a tip.
 
As long as you're a SKILLED driver and can effectively manage the throttle, you will be faster using no TCS compared to someone using TCS (all else being equal). Driving aids make the car easier to drive, but they don't make the car any faster (except for SRF).

Out of interest, for those who have upgraded to a wheel, how much would you say on average it has reduced your lap times?

Example...

I ran the Tsukuba 4h enduro in the MX5 this weekend.

I ran the 1st 3 hours with my wheel, then late Saturday night I ran the last hour with the pad as I CBA'd to set the wheel up... best lap with the pad was 1.2s slower than with the wheel with a relatively slow car with plenty of grip.

I'd expect the gap to increase proportionally with a more powerful car on a more challenging track.

Pad makes it much easier to drift though, which is what I spent the last 30 minutes doing :D
 
With a DS3/HKS controller I use TCS=0 for low power cars (<220hp) and TCS=1 for anything higher than that.

For some really torquey cars like the diesel LeMans cars (908 and R10) TCS=2 may even be better.
 
Traction control basically prevents you from giving it enough gas to cause the back end to spin out in corners. If you can control the throttle well enough yourself, you'll go faster without it. Pushing the car right to the edge will always be faster than being artificially limited by some computer program that doesn't care too much about performance.
 
I use tc1 on all my cars apart from 4wd ones, mainly because I use a ds3 and its not as easy to regulate the throttle also launching off the start grid with a powerful rwd or fwd results in major wheel spin without tc set at 1. Other aids like srf and active steering are just plain cheating and should never have been put in the game.

If the game allows for it then by this very nature it's not cheating :)

Yeah I see your point but I don't think they should have been included in "the real driving simulator" if you want a child's arcadey game get need for speed!
 
I always try to join online rooms with no aids (seems like better racing usually), but I rarely get to the front of the pack because I just cant regulate the throttle properly using a DS3. Driving anything RWD with over 500hp is near impossible with no TCS. Anyone have any tips on how to control the car out of corners with no aids and a DS3?
 
controllers suck. you can somewhat get good control with the analog stick throttle.
but it doesnt compare to a wheel. its much easier to play without TRC with the wheel.
I dont use TRC anymore unless im using a F1 or one of the throttle sensitive LMPs (R10 etc)

Thanks, I kind of figured that. Its a shame, I just cant keep up with the wheel guys when we are all racing stock Super GT cars. Just cant get out of the corners fast enough.
