Am I a noob for using ASM? (active stability management)

I have all other assists off except ABS 1.

Without ASM I seem to spin out as soon as I hit grass. Anyone else in the same boat?

I don't use ASM for the simple reason that it slows me down but if you are spinning out without it I would suggest that you race with it for now and practice without it. You will be faster without it and there are some races that you will have a great deal of trouble winning with ASM on.

I think ASM is one of the more legitimate aids. There is no shortage of cars with similar systems and it's not a 'magical force' like some of the other ones.

I sure wouldn't attempt to drive the car in your sig without it (700hp M5), and I'll bet the folks online are glad you're using it too.

Yess that could be the problem :P

I wouldn't call you a 'noob' as i hate that term. Just inexperienced. :P

:( I'll practice in a non-moded car lol

Then don't hit grass. [Case Closed] :sly:

hehe not that easy yet :( im only lvl 18 a-spac. haven't even tried b-spec yet.

with using the controller or using the steering wheel, the only aid i use is ABS @ 1. and for old cars that dont have abs, i dont use it.

You are spinning out because you are either coming completely off of the gas, or staying floored on the gas. you have to lift off a bit but not too much. Also, do not steer too much if a tire dips onto the grass.

You can use whatever you want. I would think if you keep spinning out without it and it is hindering your fun go ahead, use it. However you may not get much better in that area as an aid is now hindering your improvement.

I don't use it because it makes me go much slower. It practically brakes if your about to oversteer which even though may help in specific circumstances, generally it just slows you down. I do use it when racing some specific cars, such as when I first used the Forumla Gran Turismo. (With a DS3 mind you). So if you can manage without it I would recommend turning it off, especially for the less powerful cars. If you really are racing terribly and 'Need' to have it on then by all means go ahead.

For funs sake.

i tend to turn them off for tight corner tracks but for long highspeed corners they help

What?

I find that long sweeping corners are drastically slowed when using ASM. (Worded terribly but you get it. :S)

Just try the Nascar Special Event and you see my point.

well maybe im crazy but it let me put down a 56 second lap on hsp with the furai tcs1 abs1 asm on...i couldn't do that with tcs and asm off...now i havent tried it with just tcs on and asm off, will have to see how that turns out

I'd use Spin Recovery over ASM, as it doesn't bog your speed down in the corners, but use whatever works for you.

yeah ive also used spin recovery on some tracks. Its not bad to use. Just remember its more of a challange to take off the driving aids, but sometimes with friends or online, it can make it more fun.

Yea, I wouldn't call you a noob, you just need practice. I find it easier to play without aids with a wheel. To me it is much easier to hold the car steady and to feather the gas. To you guys who play with no aids and a DS3, my hats off to you. But play with whatever makes you comfortable. Once you can get used to a less powered car without it, start trying to practice it with the higher powered cars. I think I'm gonna have to use some aids for the Formula event. Just don't know what yet.

You'll see my point if you do the Nascar Advanced events with ASM on, and then off.

I usually leave it off, but last night in the dream car championship, I switched it on for the nurburgring 24hr course in the wet. I was on wet tyres and sliding around everywhere in my furai.

Um yes, yes you are.

Nothing wrong with that though. I remember when I first has sex........

i find some cars are hard to drive with ASM off(mainly group C cars), but i do drive with ASM off and dont look back, TCS and ASM are real life aids so if you need to use them i see no issue with that at all

I find ASM to be quite distracting and I also dislike it for puristic reasons.

Still, OP, it's your game! You paid for it and you can play it how you like :D

TCS automatically lifts the throttle. ASM automatically uses brakes. Skid recovery adds magical grip.

They are all noob. But who cares?👍 Winning is winning.

I think traction control is the most legitimate aid, as I have it in my car in real life - very common in cars since 2002 onwards, dont know any cars which have skid recovery. ASM should always be off on rally events as it slows you down so much you cant even drive the car.
