Am I able to transfer GT5 save data?

I have a PS3, and my roommate has one too. Currently both are hooked up to the big good HDTV in the living room (one at a time though). We use them both for playing Gran Turismo 5, because we each want to be able to retain our save data on our own machine. It's a bit of a pain having to play on two different machines though, but I know the game doesn't let you copy the save data because its locked, just like a ton of other games.

But now with the 1.05 update, it appears that the game save data can be "backed-up". This is great, because that game data is priceless; hence why we want to retain our data. But now that the game save data can be backed-up, does this mean that we could actually both play on one PS3 machine, and then transfer one person's data to the other machine?

I'm guessing it could be done, but I'm not sure exactly how. Would the game data being copied have to be under the same user account name as on the machine its going to? And the biggest question of all, would it really copy EVERYTHING? In other words, once copied over to the other machine, would that machine behave and play my GT5 game just as if I had been playing it on that machine all along? Would any data be missed? Would there be any little tid-bits of game data or stats, etc. that wouldn't transfer over? Or what about the trophies?

It's really a pain having to switch machines each time the other wants to play (requires switching wires, etc. and we're worried about weakening the connection ports), and if we can just both play on one machine and transfer one game save over to the other person's machine once we're done with GT5, that'd be great! But if its at the cost of losing any data that won't get copied over, its not worth it.

So, will I lose anything? And if this WILL work, how do I copy it over? (I need pretty simple and precise instructions, I'm not as experienced with dealing with PS3 stuff). Thanks very much!

You can copy data to a USB drive but you cannot use the data under another PSN name.

On two PS3's it is possible that 2 people can use the same game file using the same PSN ID but only one person will be able to play online and any progress will be individual to that game save . If you are using the same data because it has car's you both want to use then simply back up your game save on the PC using a USB stick or other media if it is a 60gb and gift your friend the car(s) but only 1 per day .. Once gifted overwrite your game save on the PS3 with the save from the PC and you still have the car but now your friend has it also on HIS/HER own account.

My wife and I both play GT5 on two PS3s. Last night I copied my GT5 data on PS3 #1 to a usb memory stick and put the stick in PS3 #2 and copied to GT5. I thought I was logged into PS3 #2 but another account was. After the copy the other account went to level zero. Apparently all GT5 data for that user account was wiped.

Be careful!

Thank you very much for the input. I don't think I'm gonna take the chance of losing anything; I'm just gonna keep doing what we've been doing.

How come people are actually transferring their saved data to a USB stick? My savegame keeps saying "Copying of this saved data is not allowed"

What am I doing wrong? My system is version 3.55

Thanks in advance!

That is the message received before GT5 update 1.05. Have you updated GT5?

So how did you get your PS3 to 3.55?

You can download FW updates from Sony site and put them to usb stick or external hdd etc.
Also i believe it's on GT5 disk as well.

No man, no internet on my PS3 :( thanks though
Why not get it then? Buy some simple home router or even usb wi-fi adapter, it's easy and doesn't cost a lot... Will save you time and nervers if something will happen to your GT5 save. =)

I don't know if it's been mentioned already as I'm in a slight rush, but you should be able to just sign in to the other PS3 using your own account details and copy your save data using a usb stick.

Make 2 accounts on one of the PS3s. Then you're just going to have to play through what you were up to on the other system. However, you can send your best cars over to make the earlier races a breeze.

Unless your ISP blocking certain ports, that's the problem on your side.
There's quite some guides in the internet (including video on youtube ), for wired and wireless options.

Basically, all you need to do is bridge connections.

Or you meant that PS3 can't get online through your router? In that case you'll just have to configure it right, that's all. =)

M'kay, I'm currently running five different users on my PS3, and all of them are playing GT5 at various times (only one at a time, though). Each user, when logged in, has its own saved data. I have my main account that I have a backup of on a jumpdrive, and my wife has her account, and then there are three others as well (friends, guests, kids, etc). All are at various levels of experience, money, cars, etc.; I can't copy my saved data onto one of their accounts and have them be able to use it. I *CAN* copy it to one of the other accounts, but if I try to boot with it, it wipes it (my main account is still safe, though).

So you DON'T need multiple PS3s in one house to have multiple people able to play the game - unless you're trying to play online together at the same time. In that case, you should probably each be on your own unit and your own TV, then go for it.

This really pisses me off. I have no desire to cheat.

You want to know what I do want to do? TRANSFER THE GODDAMN SAVEGAME FILE OFF MY OLD PS3 THAT JUST TOOK A DUMP (well the disk drive stopped reading disks, but I can still turn it on and access everything else).

I tried the USB thing, but it wouldn't load right on the brand new SECOND PS3 I just bought.

I've been searching for a while, but haven't heard of anything yet, that removes this giant redwood tree from my butt.

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks! 👍

If you mean you were at level 0 after the transfer it would be because you copied to a different PSN ID. Needs to be the same ID.

Well, I appreciate the feedback, but I'm certain I copied things over, using the same PSN ID for both. I only use one PSN ID.

I have no idea if my original save game has been returned to level zero, as I haven't been able to play the game.

If it can't be done, I'll simply start a new game, but that's damned frustrating, to say the least.

Sign to PSN 1st, then load your old save. If you won't log 1st, then game will make you a new save instead of an old one.

Do it again:

insert usb stick>Saved Data Utility>Gran Turismo>triangle>copy>USB

New Machine

insert usb stick>saved data utility>usb>triangle>copy>Gran Turismo

I do it almost every day. Before you remove stick from first PS3 look at info on USB and note level and credits

Ah, that might be the issue. I don't automatically sign into PSN every time. I probably wasn't on when I tried loading last time.

I'll resave from my old machine, and try to reload it on my new machine, making sure I'm logged in first.

Hope this works - if it does, you are the freakin' man.👍

Did it work?
