Am I crazy? GM engine on a Honda

Let's say I'm going to change everything in the engine bay, including the transmission, pumps, manifolds, electrical system, etc. and relocate the parts to get a GM engine into say, a Honda Accord. Will this be ever a possibility? And will the axle handle the torque from the cranks?

What kind of engine?

I doubt it wouyld be worth it, considering the aftermarket support for all kinds of Honda engines, and the used JDM-spec engines available through the gray market.

Unless you were planning to go with a 327 and convert the car to rear drive. In which case I wouldn't bother with the accord; since Ford Motorsports makes an adaptor kit to put a 302 Mustang drivetrain in a Focus and convert it to RWD.

Why?

I was looking at a 350 and thinking of a use for it. In a more logical sense I would just get an old Chevy truck and upgrade from there though, but right now I drive a Honda, and was thinking of the possibilites to significanally increase the torque... but for a FWD car it will be quite dangerous. If I'm going for RWD, then I'll have to change the crossmembers and possibily even the rest of the axle parts. More likely the only thing left unchanged will be the frame.

There is no frame on a unbibody car. And you'll never get a 350 under the hood of an Accord, let alone find a transverse-mount transaxle for one. Sorry...

Any thing is possible with money. Glad to see that you want to go with a real motor!

Never say Never! ;)

That's ****ing sweet. I can't see an Accord lifting the front wheels on launch... That must be quite a sight. 👍

There are Honda engines in certain Saturn Vue's, while we're at it, and Honda will get a rebadged GM pickup soon, either the Silverado or the S10...

He specifically mentioned keeping it FWD. If you'll reread my post, I did mention the possibility of converting the car to RWD with V8 power. Sorry for the confusion.

There's a 340-powered Neon that looks kind of like that Accord.

Really? I've just bought a Focus. That would rock!

I know this wont help much but I have seen a pic floating around on the net kind of like that accord but it was a CRX flossing a 350 with a jacked up rear end and monster slicks.

More then likely I'd say based on the Colorado since the S-10 is only crew cab now soon to be discontinued in 2005 and the Silverado would be pretty big for the honda line up, not to mention that they are going to replace the Silverado soon too.

It's a red CRX, and I've never seen times posted for it. I will say that anyone driving a car (even a purpose-built drag car) with that much engine and that short a wheel base is asking to lose it. Let's just hope he doesn't hit the other car when he starts bouncing off the walls.

omg the accord rocks! Id LOVE to do something like that, specially because it looks really... erm... stocky (yeah, the rear tires... I know. still, it would be one helluva surprise) and sleepy. as for the red CRX, it should go... what? mid 8s? well, assuming it can be controled from line to line

Actually that CRX is used for tractor pulls, not drag racing. I've seen another pic that i can't find anymore, where it has monster truck style tires at the rear, to dig in the dirt. That kind of racing is popular in Europe and in some parts of Canada... not sure about the states, though.

aaaah, I see. that is why it looks so... well, unbalanced :odd: but yeah, blessed excess indeed. how much do you think that engine can pull? 700? 800? maybe more, if it used for that kinda racing? nitromethane? the sky's the limit. imagine a CRX with more than 1000 hp... god....

that engine should have a fair bit more than 1000HP

Not popular in the states? Last I heard, tractor pulls and american rednecks wer practically synonymous!!

Which will be more effective in both financial and performance areas - a Prelude engine swap, T04 turbo, aftermarket suspensions, rollcages, tires, intake/exhaust systems, and a ****LOAD of VTEC decals - or just convert to a V8 with all the OEM parts basically stripped?

If you want a V8, far and away the most cost-effective thing to do is get rid of the Accord and buy something that already has a V8 in it.

Trust me, I'm speaking as a person who has done engine swaps. They are not for the faint of heart.

well I give the guy props on doing it. At least he came to his senses and went all out for the power. I rather like all the work the guy did.

Blazin: I think the 350-powered Accord is way cool and he did a great job on it. He obviously new what he was doing and how to fab custom parts.

But I was answering 19xx, who made the post right above mine. Re-read that and you'll understand why I said what I did.

hey bud, i think its highly possible. u just have to change a lot of parts on the car. why i sai this is because a friend of mine had a honda civic "sleeper" with a galant vr-4 engine. this galant is the 4G63, but this engine is not as refined as the evo engine. the car needed everything differnt. extended front, new axles, LSD, rtc. the car was a beast on the streets. its such a fast car. so i dono but it may be possible....
