Was reading about this just now. Did DeTomaso copy this or AMC copy them?? .........
According to the article, Pantera was launched ONE day after this was unveiled to the public, so you decide. Giotto Bizzarrini was responsible for AMX/3's design and construction - he was ordered to make six prototypes but then AMC cancelled the whole thing and ordered all the prototypes to be destroyed!!
Thankfully Mr. Bizzarrini had more sense than some Yankee bean counters and actually finished all of the cars.
It's powered by AMC's 390 cubic inch (6.4 l) V8 making around 340 horses. I don't think anyone actually did a performance test so I'm not sure how quick it is, but the trannie was geared towards 160mph+ top speed.
