AMD 756 PCI/USB Open Host Controller. WTF?!

Ooookay, guys, you gotta help me out with my problem, which isn't easy... I think... Anyways, let me explain it first:

I got the old computer from my brother (AMD 800Mhz, 380MB RAM etc.) which was still faster than my computer was. So I installed my HDD with Win98 SE into it. It booted and installed everything from graphiccards to soundcards and whaddayaknow without any errors. Then came the 'AMD 756 PCI/USB Open Host Controller'. The computer then wanted the Win98 SE CD and I was like 'WTF?! I don't have it!' so I didn't install it correctly. Now there's an exclamation mark in the system manager at it and it wants the ntkern.vxd as far as I can see it. It wouldn't bother me at all, but there are problems who came with it. First, it doesn't recognize my USB webcam and second, I don't have sound!

I got a Terratec Aureon 5.1 Fun and the PC installed it without problems and it doesn't have an exclamation mark with it in the system manager, but when I try to play a MP3 in winamp for example it gives me MMSYSTEM032 error messages and when I try to watch a movie it says it can't play sound, so I have to watch all my videos (yes, even the pr0n!!) in complete silence!

I hope I could describe my problem good enough to get some help from you guys.

Ah, yeah, before I forget it: I had Win2k on the comp before and the soundcard worked just fine! So it isn't broken and the onboard sound is turned off!

Alright, thanks in advance, guys!

You need the motherboard drivers. The AMD site should have drivers for the AMD 756 chipset.

The reason why the Windows 2000 disc had them because it's a newer OS than Windows 98 and had the drivers built in.

Thank you for the quick response!
I downloaded the AMD driver pack, installed the stuff but the problems are still there.
Still no sound, still the eclamation mark next to the entry in the system manager. =(
There is a bus master driver, which I will try out now, though.
If I don't edit this post in like 15-20 minutes, I ****ed up my computer. *lol*

I just did. But the good thing is that the driver pack (First link on that download page) installs it too. Even the same version. So I don't have to install the other one.
Okay, but now I am really clueless. Dayum!

I would, but it's not that easy with only 300MB of free HD space. Anyways, thank you for your help.
Still hopin' for help from other people too, though.

I had major problems on my AMD pc that was almost identical to yours. I had Win XP installed, but my graphics card was messing around, so i installed 98SE and had no sound. After installing the motherboard drivers it all worked.

Are you running a separate sound card as well as the onboard sound?

I turned off the onboard soundchip in the BIOS already, so that shouldn't be the problem.
Hmm, did you also have the exclamation mark next to the AMD 756 thingie before installing the drivers? And oh yeah, which drivers did you install. I used the driverpack, which has the IDE Bus master 1.36 ones in them. But the freakin' (!) is still there.

Hmm, well i installed the disk that came with the motherboard. Sorry. My friend directed to some bundled drivers on the AMD site, but it sounds like you got them. I think i did have an exclamation there. Sorry man, i can't really help.

300mb left? Isn't it time to clean your hard-drive out?

@donbenni: Hmm, nevermind, but thank you still for tryin'. =) Every help is appreciated!

Haha, no blank CDs here. But even if I clean out the HD a bit, I don't plan to run Win2k on it. I mean, it can't be that hard to solve that problem. =(
