The Audi R8 is in the lead currently - just smaked into the Vette C5R!!! [edit] - Actually the Vette smacked the Audi as the the R8 was leaving the pits...

[edit] Ok, so minor damage to the right front tire or the R8...

The Vettes hammered, but the R8 isn't even scratched ;) (I'm an Audi fan...)

Anyway, enjoy the race (It's on CBS here in Colorado)

Moved it where it belongs for you. ;)

It's hardly anyone's fault, they were both at the same place at the same time. Blame the guy that designed the track, if you ask me.

Yeah that is a nasty place to put the exit of the pits on the INSIDE of that line on the first turn...

I have a love/hate relationship with Infineon myself - it's fun, but sooo hard at times with all those blind corners and elevation changes in the corners...

CBS here in texas as well. by the way, the Porsche LMP2, sweet looking (and sounding)car. just can't wait for Petit Le Mans.
 
So, im just watching the last two minutes, cuz i was visiting my grandfather in mirimar hospital. so the porsche is in the lead? cuz i really like the audi, but the bently is my favorite, too bad it aint in the part im watchin!

Well, like LeMans, there are 4 different classes on the track at the same time...I think Porche won their class (P2)...

I can't believe the Vette cost the #1 R8 the race, he still got third though so at least a podium.

But isn't that what spotters are for? Shouldn't someone have warned the Vette driver that the R8 was leaving the pits right then?

Haha suckers I was there and it kicked ass! Nothing beats the beastly howl of the Mazda LMP car or the deep roar of the Corvette and Panoz.
 
Fairly good race today – shame 'bout the Audi-Chevy hookup though. At least all of the accidents today were because of good, hard driving. 👍

Yes, good race, but man they had the easy corner there in turn 9 where it looked like a modified 'chute' used for stock car racing instead of the nasty hairpin we have to deal with on the sports car course!

And again, that Audi/Chevy accident was good clean racing, but shouldn't a spotter have warned the C5R?

Great race. One of the best of the season so far. It's a shame what happened to Werner/Lehto, but that's racing at Infineon. Now that Biela/Pirro won, the championship points are damn close.

Somebody should tell Liz there are mirrors on her car and passing warning flags for a reason. Use them, toots. OK?
 
Heh heh, Lehto said the same thing. :lol: (Or, almost the same thing – it's hard to hear them with cars flying right by.)

they don't have a spotter somewhere at the end of pit lane, but they should because it will prevent future accidents like this. but as we saw, the R8(damn that car is strong!) again takes a huge hit and keeps going, showing once again that it is the best prototype ever. by the way, who besides me can't wait for the Porsche LMP 2 Car?
 
Im glad to see IMSA easing their restrictions on the Maserati, Saleen, Viper, and C5-R. Hopefully we will see the full effect of these measures in Portland. 👍

Anyone know if that factory Zytek will come back for any of the remaining races?

I would like to see them do that to GT2 also and see what happens.
as for the factory zytek, go to their team website and see if anything comes up. BTW, Lister plans on coming to the American Le Mans Series sometime(either 06 or 07)in the future so watch out. did anyone see those first exclusive video shots of the LMP2 Porsche in estoral during the race?
 
yeah i saw the porsche previews. the seem to be a modified version of the 2006 zulltec lmps. cool. i went to the race at infineon. (hot!!) :yuck: it was awesome. the unbelievable speed of the silent audis are just insane. the dyson lolas put up a good fight but their AER turbo 4 cylinders are too buggy.

so next year the rules change big time for the lmps. they are all going to the "hybrid" design. they feature sides that are much higher off the ground than the nose and rear, and a secondary roll structure placed where a passenger would sit. so the audis will back with a new r10 (not r9 because a concept street car was named that) and is rumored to have a twin turbo diesel(!) v10. the lister storm lmp is being converted to highbrid form, and the zyteks are as well. i don't know when they'll bee back, but i guess they will appear at the petit le mans in atlanta at the soonest. riley and scott is also developing a closed prototype for the p1 class. it is designed to have either a twin turbo v8, a n/a v10, or a n/a v8.
dyson racing is rumored to return with the new lola B05/40s (built for p2 class) that will be modified for p1. radical is also building a p2 car. peugeot is buiding a car for 2007, and honda is rumored to come to le mans in 07 as well to fight the porsches.

Yep, I agree. It's getting boring watching the Corvettes win everytime. Too bad it wasn't enough, this time.

it just so happened that I was drawing a modified Lola BO5 chassis and now two hours later, I actually read it might happen. the LMP2 Class all the sudden is popular and I beginning to think LMP1 will be soon. if the LMP2 Porsche looks(and sounds)great and could possibly run great, imagine a LMP1 car. one question though, what possibly could it look like? hopefully we'll know by the end of the year, but till then I keep watching the R8s win and draw out my own interpretations of the future LMP 2 (and LMP1)cars.
 
It was a shame that I couldn't see the race because the power was out at my house during a violent thunderstorm here. My house was out from about 12:45 PM CDT on Sunday to 1:25 AM CDT early Monday morning. Wanted to see this race and others so bad, but couldn't. Thanks for some of the updates, people. 👍

LMP2, and LMP675 of yore, has always been the "survival of the fittest" class, the cars have always been way too fragile. Some of them were quick, the MG-Lolas could run similar laptimes to those of LMP900 cars, but they'd break down way too often.

Hence why I think Porsche will destroy everyone in that category. You know, being backed by Porsche AG, that they won't accept failure, they'll want a quick and reliable racecar, something that, currently, isn't happening with LMP2, and isn't bound to be happening anytime soon, either. You'll have one strong car, and 6-7 other ones that will break down ever so often. Porsche said they'd come back to LMP1 if their LMP2 was a success. Unless something goes horribly wrong, it's pretty much, IMO, a done deal.

so we could be seeing a sort of audi like winning steak considering factory backed
cars almost never have problems and win just about every race they are in. but I wouldn't say the others won't have it because for all you know a factory effort could be with one or more of the other cars just as easily as it is with porsche so don't count them out and if I recall, it has been mainly lolas, WRs, and Reynards(along with the old pilbeam) that have messed up not to mention not factory backed too.
 
the vette needs a factory back competitor to really show how good the team is. btw, ron fellow is the man. cant wait for nascar watkins glens.

from what I have been looking at, we might see one not too long from now. in fact, maybe sooner then you think.not to point fingers, but I have that feeling that there is one on the horizon and when they come, it'll be with a bang and maybe with a vengeance twice as strong as aston martin. while I'm at it, come to think about it, there only has been the vipers that were and the corvettes that are true factory
cars with the others just developed by priveteers with diverse resources(being the ferraris and the Astons from prodrive) so that should prove exciting but what about GT? that is the class that nobody seems to compete in anymore other then porsche and panoz.
