What do you reckon is better...American cars, British car, etc

BTW, don't say for example british just because you come from there, say what you think is best.

I like American cars...Dodge Viper, Shelby Series 1, Chevrolet Vorvette C5, etc :drool:

anything, as long as it has wheels and can be made to haul ass...

German. Germany has set a standard of cars not beaten anywhere else. Mercedes CLK GTR, Porsche 911 GT1 and all the non racing models are stand alone from every one else!

Only good thing to come out of germany is porsche

that's according to you...

i think such a thread is somewhat stupid, there's gonna be a lot of arguing going on, i'm pretty sure...

Excuse me???

Porsche's were made on the basis of the old VW Bug with a bigger engine...that is how they started out. Ferdinand Porsche built the Bettle and then modified it to make the 356, Mercedes before the merge with Chrysler was good and they still are, the SL500 is on the cutting edge of technology and all of the AMG modeled vehicles are high-performance haul ass cars. BMW's have been around since WWII and the orginal M3's were super fast back in their day, the M1's were driven on F1 tracks by F1 drivers the day before the big GP and most BMW's are quite good excluding the 318ti. SO dont go saying that the only good thing to come out of germany is porsche.......:mad:

You are correct sir!

yeah, i vote all of em, they all have something good to offer.

Japanese are more reliable.

America knows how to make trucks.

There's no such thing as a British car -- they're all owned by Malaysians, Americans, or Germans.

German cars have always been good.

French is always number one in styling.

Italian cars just kick. Except for Fiat. And anything else that doesn't end in "errari" or "amborghini."

Australian? Like Holden? HSV rules, plainly.

318ti is a very good car somewhat under powered, but you can put all the E36 M3 goodies in it and will toast most 3 Door Hatchbacks on the road. If you want BMW Sleds try E28 528e, or 1980 to 1982 E21 3 series, E30 318i (not 1991 DOHC Equipped), E30 325e. If you really want to shut up the Asian Import Car Geeks make them look up the 1983 Brabham BMW BT52. I think it's the car that made the Formula 1 governing body outlaw turbo motors. I want to see a Honda get a 1.5 liter four-cylinder push just over 1200 HP.

Japanesse=reliable, practical, and easy to get around with
German=tecnology, precision, state of the art
American=heavy duty pickup experts, big engine builders, big cars
Australian=best high performance sedan builders
French=stylish and sophisticated
Swedish=safe and innovative
Italian=masters of artistic performance
British=(Bristol; TVR and Marcos) home of the high performance vehicles

you forgot one:
Korean=basic transportation ;)

America makes good trucks
Germany make good cars for Michigan weather
Austrailian makes Holden
France makes Peugot (sp?)
Italy makes overpriced sports cars
UK makes nothing (I agree with M5Power)
Sweden makes overpriced boxes
Korea makes hmmm?????
Japan makes good cars but there trucks suck.

Err...given that Honda dominated the last few years of the turbo formula that's probably not a good example.

Wait a sec?

"Australia=good high preformance sedan builders"?

BMW M5! HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF THE BMW M5? I DON'T BELIEVE THEY MAKE IT IN AUSTRALIA! M5!

Holden HSV 300 GTS has about 10 more HP than an E39 BMW M5. Yes BMW invented the sport sedan/saloon but there will be aways somebody with more power.

More power doesn't *necessarily* mean better.

Cadillac Escalade, for example = 345 HP and one of the worst vehicles ever produced.

UK has good cars like Lotus.

KDF

Lotus is owned by Proton, which is in Malaysia.

M5power,
What I mean is that thats the Austrailians ONLY makes Hi-Performance sedans in a wide range of variety.
BMW M5, however, is a real meaning of a hi-performance sedan but doesen't a wide variety of cars like Holdens/HSVs and Ford Austrailia.

I hope that you're not offended.

Oh, I know. I'm not offended, just pointing out. I really have got one hell of a lot of respect for the Aussie super-sedans. But...

:thatsodd: I donno. About every auto enthusiats has talked about this at one time or another. Each country has it's strengths. It used to be America, now it's Japan. The Europeans have always been on top on certain things. The Aussies have some great cars but a lot of them are made by American parts. And that's true with other cars aswell, the Pontiac Vibe is a Toyota regardless if the Matrix was there or not, they are Toyota parts. And some people consider the location where the cars are made the home of the car, using that GM F-bodys are Canadian. :p

I think America cars have the best history and our manufatures have the best resorces, although they haven't been using them to give enthusiats what they want for some time. Hopefully that's gonna change. :cool:

This is too subjective. Select a criteria then maybe we can agree on something.

Most practical for common usage.

Reliable.

Engine efficiency, either in terms of mileage or useful power

through an rpm range.

Stuff like that

Well, reliable's an easy win for the Land of the Rising Sun, right?

Yeah, Italy...not much competition there. Germany's had some luck with Audi and Volkswagen's styling...Some Japan. But Italy wins.

The Germans are building some great looking cars at the moment, with the exception of the new 7. I even looked at an S-Class parked in the street and thought it was quite small! And a girl at work has the 3.0 A4 Sport quattro, and it's a fantastic looking car.

I think that the BMW M5 would destroy a Holden HSV in most real-world (i.e. non-drag strip) tests, but even so, Holden has relatively little to do with the car since it's built by TWR.
