My goodness! What the hell is up with the first race at this event? I started off with the second race at Laguna Seca using the Corvette ZR1 C6. I only had the Vette pushing about 745 HP with other various upgrades and completely smoked the AI on this track.

I then go to do the first race and had my ass handed to me in the first lap. Even though I was easily beating the AI at Laguna the Vette could not keep up at the SuperSpeedway-Indy. It was like watching a Yugo race against a Bugatti.

So I go do some massive upgrades to my Vette. The typical vehicle is pushing 741 HP in this race. I got my vet hitting 826 HP with 790 ft-lbs of torque. This cars weight is down to 1221 kgs too. I have this vet nearly maxed out and the AI in this event is still smoking my ass!

What is up with the AI on this track? MAJOR rubber-banding.., cars taking corners at speeds that should have them plowing into the wall.., it is just unreal how unbalanced the AI is in this event.

Its all about tuning.. And the Vette is not good enough on the Speedway... You'll need something faster.. Like the 2J or a Ford GT...

Did you race mod the Corvette? That helps a lot. You might also want to get Racing-Soft tires. As well, you should have full downforce. During the race, don't use the brake at all, just lift off. It's easy winning the race that way. :)

Thanks for the info. I thought I had this beast tuned really well as it was. Gotta pull out the magic wand for this tune job.

I ended up Race Modding it.., and tuning from there. I finally won the race.., but I still stand firm in that this particular race (thus far that I've seen) is the best example of how F'ed up the AI is with cheating in terms of rubber-banding.., ect.

The whole event has me a little confused though. I nailed Laguna with the street version pushing a tad over the HP listed for the opponents. I was running slightly heavier too.., but did some tuning. I figured it would be one hell of a challenge.., but I smoked the AI in that race. That same car with those specs was a joke on SSpdWay-Indy though. I was planning on using the Laguna race for my grind. With the race mod that Vette should be a killer on that track.

I won this event with 5 different cars:
1: Jeff Gordon NASCAR, which was hard, I often came in only a splitsecond ahead
2. Corvette ZR1 RM, pretty easy to destroy the AI
3. Ford GT LM Spec II, I use this for grinding, it'll always be my No1 choice (black carbon)
4. Same goes for the white Ford GT LM II, only a bit slower
5. Cadillac Cien, I gave it a try just yesterday, because it has 950hp :D

I'm going to try out that tune another member posted a link for. I still don't know how I won the race at Laguna w/o the race mod. It could be that I've run this track "a lot" in other titles I have.., and I know it like the back of my hand ;-)

That's probably very true... but also the AI has some serious problems with cornering in GT5. They brake too soon and slow down way too much in the turns so it's much easier to pass them. Any track with a lot of turns is bound to be easier than the super speedway at Indy where they build up tremendous speed on the straights.

As others have said, RM your ZR1, then use Racing Soft tires, adjust the down force and the transmission max speed setting (if I recall correctly, I use 249 for Indy & the ZR1) so you're not hitting the rev limiter on the straights or when drafting and you should be good to go.

When you get enough credits, you might want to look into buying the Ford GT LM Spec II Test Car. It's untouchable in these and many other races with a proper tune. I use it when I grind for credits with this very race (117,000 credits in 3 minutes 35 seconds). Grinding gets real boring very fast though!

Good luck with Indy! You will obliterate the AI if you take the suggestions offered in this thread. Enjoy...

I'll add to that list, Panoz Esperante and Ford GT (no stripe).

As others have said just pouring HP into a car doesn't always make it faster. If I remember correctly the American Championship is full of race cars, the ZR1 is a road car. Either RM it or use a race car.
I used a GT LM and so did my B-Spec guy, stock on both accounts.

Add to the list, Dodge Viper Team Oreca Race Car...I did all available upgrades but left the settings default and won without a problem. I've also used the Panoz Esperante, Vette ZR1 RM (my first), and Ford GT LM Spec II Test Car (my favorite) with all available upgrades but without tinkering with any of the settings.

You can easily beat that event with the Viper Oreca even without adding bits and bobs to it. It's plenty fast as is. I've done it often while grinding.

Make sure you set the TC to 0!! This prevents your speed from going down too much in the bends! 👍

Sounds like you need some serious tweaking on the settings.
I used this tune:
http://www.gt5-tuning.com/index.php?title=Chevrolet_Corvette_ZR1_(C6)_RM_'09

And I destroyed the Indy race with my ZR1.
I lapped half the field for God sakes.
The Corvette is plenty of car to get the job done, when properly tuned, unless you absolutely suck at driving.

Folks.., use this tune on the Vette! It's a damn good one. The only thing I did different on this tune was add a tad bit more down force to the rear for my driving style.
