Well, that's all down to most people voting democrat in recent elections. I believe the media has something to do with people's perception of how government should work, morals, etc.

In a civics class I took in high school, we took a quiz to see where we all fell on the republican-democrat spectrum. (I was a moderate for anyone wondering.) My area is of largely republican belief, (the scale was from 1-40. 1 being mega republican and 40 being mega democrat, I scored 20, and was the second most left thinking person in the class other than one person who got a 21, otherwise ALL were republicans) but when our teacher asked us various political questions to take sides on, a majority of people on the republican side voted like democrats. This was most likely because their parents told them what to believe, but the slightly more liberal media in America convinced them to believe otherwise.

And most Americans aren't stoopid.

But they're ignorant as hell.....

Since our schools have drifted away from education and into measuring teacher performance, the classroom is a place to prepare for standard test-taking. Actual teaching has been on the back burner for decades.

Facebook and Twitter are how kids learn these days. Anybody with an agenda can teach anything they want to teach, and the kids buy into all of it. Witness the current anti-police rage......

And while this is a massive generalization, the lower-income folks always buy into the campaign promises of redistribution of wealth, tax relief, etc. Who isn't gonna vote for a free ride when they don't understand the fiction of it?

I'm not american, so I cannot really comment on this with 100% accuracy, but from what I've heard and seen from your media, everything is basically manipulating into believing what's right and what's wrong.

I think the biggest problem not just with your people, but especially with your political system is that everything is run my lobbyists and cooperations. Don't get me wrong, EVERY country is somewhat controled by that, but it seems to be very much the case in the US.

Exactly. I can't stand the media myself, because they are all about money and ratings so they make stuff up, blow things way out of proportion and cover stupid and ridiculous things. You are very right about the corporations, many of them actually own various news channels so they can report on things that will help their businesses. I do not consider myself a democrat or a republican, because I just use my strict set of morals to make decisions rather than blindly sway to one side and disagree with the other. That's the problem with America if you ask me. People creating labels and shunning the people and opinions with the opposite label.

republican or democrat, truth is people on both sides of the spectrum are cluess about what the role of government should be.

Can agree on that.

The education system prefers making money over educating children. Money talks.

Agreed.

That dips back into the ignorance of the populace. We'll never truly know the agendas of political campaigns until they already take reign. By that time, it's too late to change our minds.

But if people could be bothered to remember past what they had for breakfast that morning, i.e. all the previous folks who've made those same pledges, and what actually happened......

I can attest to that. Most Americans online don't even exercise proper spelling and grammar of the English language, even though it's their primary language. (I'm not from USA and yet I have humiliated some Americans online who are too dumb to use proper English) And I always get a facepalm whenever someone asks "Do you speak American?" when they meant English. Good lord, if you want someone to speak in American, you should expect them to speak in Native American language, not the language that the Brits brought over.

Most English-speaking people online don't even exercise proper spelling and grammar of the English language,

I've taken the privilege to fix that sentence for you.

Unless you are new to the internet, you should be well aware that bad grammar is hardly limited to U.S. natives. I also don't think it's all that uncommon for someone to be better at a second language than a native speaker as they usually put more focus into what they are typing.

So true. That's another reason why I don't consider myself either. Both sides have beliefs that genuinely make me cringe.

I think that being such a big nation with a big demographic, it's obvious that certain kinds of people are in bulkier numbers rather than other and smaller nations. (don't know if i made my point )
BTW at least two or three years ago a girl from Rhode Island came here in Italy for some exchange project, living with my girlfriend's family and going to school. We had the possibility to talk about our countries and education and she was impressed with how many subjects we had to deal and how almost every test is an oral presentation rather than standardized tests. Point is i really think that our education system is too much obsolete, we study for a encyclopedic knowledge, while for what i've seen the american system is aimed to a functional knowledge that prepares you for work, general craftimanship and even sport related. Of course both systems have their ups and downs, especially in some zones of america where the most religious minds reject what is not only progress, but even factual datas that took years of studies ( is that named "bible belt"?) even stuff that doesn't even attack religion in the first place. Yet another version of the truth is that when i got out of high school i knew a lot of stuff just for their own sake , too much to be considerated ignorant too few to apply for a job or else.
