I want to make a list of all the major racing series and descriptions of them. I know Formula 1, WRC, Formula Ford, SCCA Run Offs, NASCAR, Indy 500, etc... But that's only some of them. It's hard to keep up with name changes and it's confusing when the same car races in multiple series(C6R)

Anyone want to help? I don't think we need to cover every race being run but I don't know where the cut off point would be. (participants, history, etc)

Nice Idea, yes wiki does exist, but I know through trying to research motorsport myself it is not the best resource...

.. got a suggested format?

Racing series are organized by region, type, and pro, semi-pro, pro-am, am, etc.

Formula 1
Worldwide, open wheel, pro

This could easily be done with a wiki. Give each series a page and that page can have the status of the series, the schedule for the year, and basic information about Thr series. The next step is to have a bunch of list to organize them. Examples of lists would be...

Australian races, open wheel races, rally races, open wheel series with city tracks, one make amateur races.

I'm not trying to create something completely new.

Yes we get the point, however in my opinion Wiki is a mess, I think if this was laid out as a more of a quick 'reference', I think it could be useful.

Not to mention the page doesn't appear to have been updated since 2008.:odd:

The Wiki page you linked is very generalised, and is different from what the OP is suggesting.
The Wiki page I linked to is the motorsport portal. It's an umbrella page for all racing series. Yes, you'll have to actually go and look for content, but the portal is a good place to begin.
