I'm not sure whether this goes in this forum or in the GT5 forum, but if it is in the wrong forums, could the mods kindly move it to the correct one? :D

Anyway, with the possibility of variable weather and day/night cycles, PD could very well introduce working windshield wipers and working headlights (we all know their attention to detail). A wonderful thing to do is to make the operation of these manual (that is, controlled by the user. I.e. we can turn our headlights on and off as we wish and turn our wipers on and off as we wish, possibly even the washer :D). With the lack of buttons available for use on the SIXAXIS/Dualshock 3, G25, DFP and DFPGT, it may seem as if ths may not be feasible.

My idea is to have the options for these (and maybe more....indicators anyone?:sly:) in GT's real-time adjustment system (where you adjust TCS, ABS, etc. on the fly). so it would look something like this:

TCS 0-10
F Bias 0-10
R Bias 0-10
ASM on - off
ABS 0-10
HEADLIGHTS off - low - full - high - auto (full being the ones you normally drive with at night, and high being highbeam)
WIPERS off - int. - norm. - fast - auto
INDICATORS(?) left - off - right - hazard(?) (i know not everybody thinks that this one is a big deal, but i'd personally like to see them)
Washer(?) *hold to activate* (wel...if windows get dirty this could be useful...esp. on rally tracks :D)

What do you guys think? This would make it feasible for PD to implement these featues as it enables them to do so without requiring more buttons to be used. It would also be fairly esy to access, as all you need to do is bring up the menu and select your setting, just as you would wth any of the other settings.

What do you guys think?

A good option also would be IF you have a steering wheel to assign these extra controls to the sixaxis.

Or maybe even hook up a keyboard and assign the extra controls to that?

I certainly don't see why not, seeing as the PS3 has capabilities to interact with keyboard and mouse. If PD manage to bring these features into GT5, it would easily become the best GT yet by far!

Id love to see this for sure ! Its those little details that would make the game stand out again. Im sure PS3 could handle this stuff , including rain and dirt effects, but then i think they wont do it :(

If its true PD has only about 150 people making the game theres very little chance they implement those things , i mean they could´ve done it already and it would not have been impossible to do on PS2 also.

Honestly its what i want to see in a game like GT5. 👍

we need
Lights on, off,
Wipers, on off
I dont think we need anything complicated in terms of SPEEDS of wipers and headlights

Edit: re-read first post, lol, missed that bit somehow.

Anyway, yeah, I'd love to see more interactive parts of your car. But I think first I'd actually like to see variable weather and time conditions, PD should concentrate on getting these working to the best quality first. Then we can worry about the details such as this.

But, I like the idea and do think PD should include all of this.

Depends how detailed PD amkes their weather systems (if indeed it is implemented). Imagine a 24H race at the Nurburging, you'd race around with light off most likely in fine weather. When pressuring someone, you may like to have high beams on. When driving at night, typically high beam or normal lihts are used, and you never know, some people may use the low lights.

Wipers also work in a similar way. If it's a light sprinkle, intermittent may be fine, and under light rain, normal wiper speeds would work, and so on. It all depends on the conditions. Of course, in my example in the first post, I suggested an "auto" option at the end of each, which could just let the computer control these devices. A way of customising this would be to have "default settings" defined in user pofiles.

If they did weather it would either be like MS FS where it downloads a weather report from the internet every 5min's or it will just allow you to set weather and you would have different option's like random, rain, ect...

As for lights and wipers that control thing they came up with is sooooooo smart it honestly open's this game up in term's of those little extra's that I think makes game's like this that much better.

Its one thing to drive nurburg in a R8 its another thing to do it with dark overcast light rain wiper's sqeaking and head lights on. Thats emersion.

Just imagine racing at night and the person in front constantly blocks you when you want to get past.
Just turn off your lights and he wouldn't have a clue where you are :)

You can still use his lights to know when the following turn is coming.

For some reason, reading through this thread I imagined for a minute driving the Nurburgring, at night, with headlights on, engine blaring, and no one else on the track...

...do want...

Or make it into Two buttons? Press it once, for normal light, 2nd time for HIGH beams. Press horn For FLAHS and horn :)

Same with wipers, one button, Once, Light, 2nd time makes it go faster, and 3rd time turns it off.
But I think having option for automated wipers and lights would be cool as well... But button press would be nice, especially if somone is making a GT5 movie ;)

I believe there weather map on the home page is the precursor to weather on tracks (and possible day/night).

The rules in top sports car endurance racing is you must have your headlights on for the entire race.

So if PD implements changing time of day then your headlights most likely will be stuck on for the entire race. I doubt they will let you turn off the car in the pits in GT5

If they implement rain I think windshield wipers will automatically turn on. As for Washers GT cars never get dirty, they just lose some of their shine

i'm not really into this idea to be honest. i'd probably prefer the wipers and and lights to come on themselves. wouldn't really be fussed though if it was turned on auto or manually.

I really like the possibility of variable weather and day/night cycles, where you can race at the local time of the real track and weather condittion. What else is the weather on my-page for?? I want snow and ice on the track! That would be fun!

OT, I would like the option to do it manually, but probably just use auto to save the time and concentrate on racing. Hopefully PD would implement all this in GT5

Leave it to the Norwegians to ask for snow & ice! lol

Anyway, I agree that this would be cool to have in the game. If that happens, nobody would be saying the environments are too sterile.

Its a really great idea, but they can't just do it with their GT wheel, they'd have to get it into the Contorller too... Like this!

One button not currently used : Scroll through options, such as wipers, windows?, headlights, etc..

Another button: scroll through the options for that particular section of parts...

I like the idea but it is hard for controller users. It would have to have a default automatic setting.

Use the Up/Down buttons on the D-pad, maybe? Up for on, down for off. I don't use those buttons for anything. In fact, I never even used the D-pad until I read that we could assign the look-left and look-right views to them.

Yeah that would be fine for someone that wants to re-assign controls but they wouldn't make it that was by default (KY uses the D-pad himself when using the controller)

Back in the day NFS: High Stakes had working headlights and indicators. To activate the headlights you pressed L1 and up on the dpad, indicators L1 and left or right on the dpad. So it is possible.

I like the idea of real-time weather. Say the forecast says it's raining in Fuji at the moment, and whenever you race on a Fuji track, it's raining

With these features, GT would definately skyrocket above all other racing games

That's why the weather ticker on the main menu is so tantalizing. It shows that PD knows real-time weather and temperature for many, many tracks; all they have to do now is use that data to create dynamic weather for the tracks.

Once we get that, then we can complain about not having working wipers :D.

The thing that has me worried is the fact that the game already drops FPS when it's busy on track, adding more stuff like this would probably make it even slower in those situations. But it would be nice to have wipers and lights and cars that get dirty. :) And spray when the track is wet so you can't see very well when closely hunting some other driver.

I think PD need to get the dust off their PS2s and play 24hr Le Mans. Day and Night available either in actual time or with an accelerated clock, changing weather (and a weather forecast available in the HUD), great pit crews etc, etc...
