So after almost fully completing the 3D model I had created of an Audi R8 (pics below), my file now does not want to open.. :indiff: It freezes/slows down my computer to a crawl for about 5 minutes then just displays this.
error.jpg

None of the other files of that type have been affected.. Anyone have any idea what's going on?

Oh and here are pictures of the model, along with a link to my thread showing its "life".

Could it be something to do with the size of the file itself? What is the size of the file?

Additionally, it could be that there was a piece of code that has been saved totally wrong for whatever reason.

I think the file size got up to 68mb. Too high?

...total file size is 68MB?

Its not that then....

Well, you will have to wait for some of the Graphics design guys to come in and voice their opinions. My knowledge on this is practically nil unfortunately.

I'm thinking of doing a system restore. See if that works.

Try running a CHKDSK /r, their may be errors on the drive.

To do a CHKDSK click start>All programs>Accessories>Command Prompt.
Type in CHKDSK X: /r.

X is the drive where the file is.

So would I replace X with the C:\Users\Duncan\Documents\audir8.skp?

Edit: Tried that and it didn't work, I'm not sure what to do.

If the drive is C: type chkdsk c: /r in the command prompt.

The scan will take a while but if you have any bad sectors on the drive this will tell you.

Also try contacting the maker of the software and see what they can do for you.

I get an access is denied message. Says something about invoking this utility in a higher mode...?

You need to make sure you are running in admin mode right click the cmd icon and select run as administrator.

After you do the command it will say you need to reboot your computer, this is best done at night or when you are at school as it can take 4+ hours as it scans the whole entire drive.

Your PC freezing and then showing the error could be the program, the file or the harddrive.

I doubt you have made back ups of it, if the program made backups use them.

The program did make an auto save of it, but unfortunately it has less progress on it then in the pictures I posted, and I had done loads more since then. Before I try your suggestion I'm going to try doing a system restore to the last time I updated my computer and see if that works.

Also make a copy of the audir8.skp file and put it in C:\.

Incase it has issues reading from the \users\duncan\documents directory.

If you want upload it and i will see if i can open for you.

Well right now I'm in the middle of doing the chkdsk, and as far as I'm aware I can't copy it directly to c: .

And what do you mean upload it? Do you mean to a place such as megaupload?

Megaupload or any other file hosting site.

My PC is a high end gaming rig which wont lag at all.

I take it you are using google sketch up 8.

Alright tomorrow I will upload it to megaupload, and yep, I have pro verison I believe.

Alright I got the file to open. After running the scan the error message became "Unexpected File Format". So I googled that and saw that the .skb file was a back up of the usual .skp file. I had to go into the properties of the .skb file so it would actually open with sketchup (before it just opened with something saying it was an unknown file type) and it worked fine! So now I have all my work back and haven't lost anything. :dopey:
