Analyzing your lines...

Will GT4 have any tools in replay mode to allow you to analyze your line through corners etc? If I remember correctly, in GT3, the analyze function only showed a replay of each corner, with the indicators of when you pushed the gas, and when you pushed the break... It'd be nice to see a top down replay with your line drawn in with indications of when you were breaking, and when you were accelerating... Possibly with an overlay of the "ideal line" so you can see what you're doing differently etc...

That would be neat to have, but a replay of someone elses faster lap would still be more useful in refining lines.

What always bothered me about downloading someone's blazing fast time (say, Jimeez on dirt, Flinx on the tarmac) was that racing against their ghosts may show me some decent lines, but unless I can tell what they're doing to the gas and brake as well, I'm pretty much lost. Sure, you can find out when they're accelerating or slowing down by watching the ghost replay by itself, but ideally, if the game could put down the red/blue line that normally shows up in license modes, well, that'd make it a lot easier to follow someone else's line.

Oh, and the "ideal line" changes slightly between cars, so I'm not sure that would work. And the problem with my idea is the fact that it would give away some of the magic that goes along with trying to match the super-fast guys. If an overlay was available, it would only take a bit of patience reading the blue and red before you could match their times.

I was thinking that it would serve as a tool for newbie drivers to see where they can shave some time off their laps... I know that lines will be different from driver to driver, and that different techniques can help you get through a corner faster. It would also help you get a little more familiar with the course...

The analyze tool was pretty detailed in replays. No where near the level of a real data logger, (like the Motec system modelled in GTR) but IIRC, it would track acceleration & braking force, lateral G force, and lateral position on the track. They were all graphed with "time" on the X-axis, and segmented into each turn.

I'm not sure if it was possible to overlay multiple laps, but it was somewhat useful if used properly.

On the whole "dling a fast ghost thing" I would say a little indicator over the car of red and green bars showing braking and acceleration would be a good idea....that way you could tell if someone was braking AND accelerating, it would keep you more focused ahead on the track instead of down on the pavement, and you could easily compare your bars with theirs.

Will something like any of this be in GT4? methinks not.

Do you mean for the bars to appear over the ghost, or over the player's car? Because if they appeared over the ghost, if you happen to lose sight of it, you're screwed ;).
