Matt Neal won the 2006 BTC Championship. he successfully defended his title from Seat's Jason Plato to pilot his Integra Type-R into the record books as the first man to do so since 1985-86.
(just thought you'd like to know)

And I was there to see it happen, I would add my congratulations to Matt for an excellent second championship.

The day was however soured by the very nasty accident in the second BTCC race of the day.

BTCC Statement: Mike Jordan

During today’s (Sunday) penultimate round of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Silverstone there was an accident involving car number 77, a Honda Integra driven by Mike Jordan for the Team Eurotech Racing with John Guest team.

Mike has subsequently been airlifted by helicopter to the Neurological Department of Coventry Hospital in a serious condition, suffering from a significant head injury and a punctured lung.

The entire incident happened almost in front of me as a number of cars were exiting Luffield and heading towards Woodcote and the start finish straight, Mike Jordan's car left the track at speed (along with a number of other cars) and hit the armco (after travelling through the gravel trap) side on. The impact was very heavy and a little later I saw the air ambulance leaving the circuit.

My thoughts are with Mike and his family at this time and all my hopes that he will make a full recovery and we will see him back next year.

Regards

i saw it all on tv! they said he was sitting up in bed and watched the last race. they said he had a significant head injury but is just woosy. didn't hear anything of a punctured lung, however they did say he broke a couple of ribs.

That's great to hear, I've only been home a few hours so not heard any real news since leaving the circuit.

Thanks 👍

I'm also very happy to hear that latest news :)

I didn't see the incident, I was on the banking overlooking Luffield and the end of the National straight, but it quickly became obvious that it was serious. Especially when the air ambulance turned up. My thoughts are also with Mike and his family - I spoke to one of the Techspeed guys and at the time they thought the trip to hospital was just a precaution. Sadly not so :(

Good luck and a speedy recovery to Mike, and also many congratulations to Matt - a well earned second championship 👍

Quick update on Mike Jordan - he released a statement on the BTCC website this morning, in a nutshell he's a bit groggy and his ribs are sore but he's hoping to be able to leave hospital in a couple of days. Great news and once more I wish him a speedy recovery 👍 :)

Ah nuts, the final round I was looking forward to most and I missed it.

Ah well, congrats to Matt, I guess I'll have to get a DVD of this season. :D 👍
