Reading the known news about the illegal leak of famous pre-release games (Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Half Life 2, Doom III and Halo 2) in internet, and with the great expectation that has been created for GT4... i am thinking about what will happen with GT4... i think that will be a disaster... :scared:

What do you think?

I think it woudl be great to find out extra info pre-release but i can't be bothered to d/l it. Also we could get a full car list before the game was released, something I do look forward to.

Do you mean it would be a disaster if illegal copies of GT4 became available before it was officially released?

If so, I'd agree to an extent, but illegal copies of any games don't interest me anyway, and especially GT4. I don't think you'll find many people on this forum who'd enjoy playing an illegal download version of GT4, and even less who'd condone the practice either.

OK, PD may have their faults... they've created GT junkies, and like a sadistic dealer, they are stringing us along, desperate for our next hit. But, let's not forget that these guys are busting their b@lls to make us the finest racing game in the history of the world, and that every day of delay, means another day of refinement of the final version, so any pre-release download can only be inferior (in many ways) to the final (legal) version anyway.

Such things aside, PD deserve your money for GT4, not anyone else, and for those of you who disagree with that point, you're in the wrong place on this forum...

Exactly why they released GT4P. To wet the taste for us addicts(unless your like me and weren't able to get it). I think prologue will help lessen the number of illegal copies, but all of the delays won't.

I don't think it'll make much difference. PC games are one thing, consoles another. In order for someone to make use of it, they'd need three things that the average gamer doesn't have: Access to the program online, A DVD-burner, and a modchipped PS2. I have only one out of three, so even if I found the thing, I wouldn't be able to do anything with it. I think most other console gamers are probably in the same boat, missing one ingredient that would allow them to play the game. The number of people that have everything would be minimal compared to the number of games they're going to sell when the game itself hits stores.

I brought up the same point in the thread about Halo 2 being leaked early. Makes no difference overall, the number of pirates is probably less than half a percent of the people who will buy the game.

That and make a quick buck.

Waiting for them to perfect the game is one thing, but I object to having to wait simply because they have to do various translations (PAL) when it should have been done during development already. Its not like they haven't had long time. If it was delayed due to online mode, I could understand but now there isn't even that included in 'vanilla' GT4. So much for simultaneous worldwide release

I have to be honest: if I had a DVD-DL burner, and if my swap disc would work with DVD-DL, I would probably make at least a vague effort to download a leaked copy.

Not that I wouldn't purchase the game when it comes out though, I would still do that to support the game and Polyphony, but I would download it just to end the interminable wait.

But that's just me, judge me how you will.

Yeah, I stopped buying PC games a while back.
DOOM III was great for being free so was chrome, sims 2, merc benz wold racing, half life 2 beta, manhunt, GTA, call of duty, leisure suit larry, pro race driver, colin mcrae, vietcong, rainbow six, splinter cell: pd, delta force, silent hill 4, myst4, deus ex 2, ut2k3, ut2k4, unreal 2, **** so much more

edit: steam sucks

the previously leaked games (well most of them) have gone gold, which means that they are done, no more changes and modifications can be made, but there release date is still a week or more away. some people download these leaked "gold" games to play them early and then still buy the legal versions. they just want to play it before anybody else. if such a system exisested where i could pay to download a game when it goes gold vs. waiting for stores to get it I would certainly pay for the download then.

Just think. If you had a DVD DL Burner AND a modded PS2, you're probably rich, right? Why not just buy the damn game, instead of paying 1,000 hard ones on a burner?

If illegal copies did appear, if I were PD I'd set the release date back again. Okay, so I'd get up everyone's noses, but then I'd stick new tracks and features in that wouldn't be on the pirated copies, so that anyone who boasted to have played GT4 would get roasted because not only was it illegal, they'd be the laughing stock of the gaming community because evryone else would have the complete version.

You can buy DVD burners for around £100.

I hope you have over 50K. If those 4 games are found, you can be find probably anywhere from 50,000 to 100,000 dollars. Because of Halo 2's issue, Microsoft are fining 100K to anyone they find with an illegal copy. 👎
A game isn't worth it.

Sony DW-D22a 16x Dual Layer DVD R/RW - OEM Biege
£47.99 inc VAT from ebuyer.co.uk .....

So you could burn your GT4 on a Sony branded DVD writer.... Ironic eh? :dopey:

dunno where £1000 came from.. :dunce:

Do you race?

Good idea, so that while you make new tracks and ****, everyone will play the previous GT4 game... by that time, about all the none-hardcore racers out there will have played it near enought. So when you come back with your new version of the game (which will be pirated too btw), you'll have new **** that no one cares about...

There's always been piracy and there will always be some. There's the gamers who buy games and the ones who don't give a ****.

Very true... this "wave" of pirated games is nothing new. Games, movies, CDs, you name it.. it all ends up online before it's out in stores. It's been that way for years. The only reason you hear about it with HF2 and GTASA is because the games are in such high demand.. they're "news worthy". The new "Dukes of Hazzard" game will no doubt end up online a week or two before it's in-store date, but you won't hear a word about that one, because no one cares.

PD won't delay anything at all. Their demos haven't even gotten online to my knowledge.. as a first-party title, the game never has a reason to leave direct control by Sony or PD. If it does end up online "early", it'll probably only be by a day or two, just not worth it to do anything about it.

:scared: head for the hills! there gonna FINE you!

on a serious point, if its worth buying (even if i have..umm.. played the extended demo) ill buy it, that goes for music cd's and games. bands that make descent albums get my cash, and id never think about NOT buying GT4. unless it was pants then i wouldnt want it full stop.

I'd have airtight security and threaten any staff with dismissal if a pirated copy is traced back to them. Hey, it worked for JK Rowling with Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix! Well, sort of. Someone wrote their own version of it and gave it to a newspaper under Rowling's name. But you get the idea. If I were in control, no-one would be play the Ultimate Unpirated Version until the release date.

It's gonna happen and people are gonna download it, I could but wont because I know I would pay over $100 USD for this game. Sad, but true.

It would be pretty dumb to tell the world that you have played GT4 with an illegal copy.
Sony and PD will be pro active in trying to stamp this out and I am sure it would be fairly easy for them to track down people via email address if they post at sites like GTP.

Well, if a pirate version would appear, I would not download it because:

-I dont have an appropriate Internet connection and it would take me a week to download it.

-I don't have a CD burner or that kind of stuff

-And I am glad to pay when the game is great and worth buying, like GT4, GTA:SA, NFSU2,etc.

I, over anything else, would hate to know the final car list before the release.

See ya :sly:
