i'm ready to quit my "job". Every damn time I ask my boss to give me hours, he says to give him my availability. I've given him my availability way too many times over the past month. Now, he said he's got hours coming up for me... that means he's going to call me in during the christmas rush. That's exam time for me. To hell with that. If he only calls me in when he starts having big sales, what's the bloody point. I mean jeeze, show a guy *some* respect. Besides, there's no way i can handle the stress of both my exams, my finance class (it's work load is 5x what all my other courses are), AND working 24 hour weeks.

The only reason I haven't given him my resignation letter yet is because i'm still getting discounts on computer stuff... but i'm flat broke on account of the fact that he hasn't given me any hours since the school year started. Should I quit? Or should I stay and reap the benefits of the discounts the job offers? I'm not sure if I'll be able to get out of working the christmas season if he calls me in for that part.

If I quit, i may not get another job anytime soon. I mean... this was the first place that responded to me after I applied to like 50+ places.

yes, i do need the money... but I can't work the 24 hours a week during exam time like my boss is going to give me. The money my parents give me to cover tuition fees is barely enough. This year, the tuition was higher and my textbooks were twice as expensive. I couldn't buy used because half of them were new and the other half were new editions with crap that I couldn't do without. I ended up being $1500 over budget. I have absolutely nothing left for personal expenses now. I can barely afford to buy lunch/dinner once a week like I used to.

My original plan was to work the 24 hours a week up till around exam time. By that time I would have had most of the money needed to either buy a motorcycle for spring or a new computer to call my own since my sister doesn't allow me near mine because she claims she's doing homework during the school year (that's yet another problem that I don't want to get into the details of)... The laptop my university forces me to lease barely even starts up. The fact that anything on it is working still is a miracle in itself. I've had to replace just about every part on it under warranty because they've all turned out to be defective. Buuut the warranty is over and I'm going to have to pay for replacing the motherboard for it when the lease ends at the end of the year since even the new one is defective

Just tell him about your problem with Exams, etc. Tell him that you asked for work before-hand, but he didn't give it to you. Tell him what he needs to know, exams are crucial. Ask him to put you on more hours after exams.

Most bosses are asses, but can also be understanding. Go with jimmy's advice and if that don't work get outta there.

Yeah. My Boss is very strict, but he can be surprisingly very understanding.

Tell me if you have any luck.

He more than likely wouldn't remember having any conversation with me if we have one considering he doesn't remember the last two we had regardign the hours he was giving me.

I'm probably going to tell him I quit over the weekend... any suggestions as to how to tell him that?

Don't quit yet. Just try talking to him first. If that doesn't succeed, then maybe you could look at quitting, as you are doing important studies.

But just try it. Don't quit yet.
