Whats with the ads that play audio everytime you change the page? Sometimes I cant even find the ad to click the 'audio off' button (when there are large images on the page).

And why are they all women's products? On a GT board, hardly the ideal demographic.

Still love the site though.

it is not only woman things, there is a cam-s:censored: banner:crazy:.

Was getting the flash ads with audio recently which is quite annoying.

Today I'm getting Javascript popups telling me I need to scan my comptuer, both buttons take me to a page faked to look like Windows XP doing a fake virus scan and reporting trojans and viruses found. Thing is I run Linux... It takes over my gtplanet tab and I can't use the site. I hit back three times and got the javascript popup each time, only on the fourth try did it go away.

Just a plea to keep the adverts under control. I love this site and would have to see it rendered unusable by tasteless advertising.

They are quite annoying. As a premium member, I only have to deal with them as I log in to a computer at work. There's one for Axe body spray, another for some stupid looking online video game. But lately I've noticed additional ones that seem as tho they've somehow managed to attach themself to the others. These little pop-up things. :yuck:

I'm glad I have premium. Gets rid of all the ads (hint hint).

We have ads so Jordan makes a living and the site can be upgraded. Premium money here and there isn't going to sustain a website and the creator.

All i get are the double chesty one and World of War Craft i think. Don't get anything with audio yet.

Banners which play uninitiated audio make my skin crawl, because they only encourage people to figure out how to block ads altogether, suffocating online content in the process. I have explicitly blocked audio ads from all of the ad networks that I work with, but some advertisers have ways of circumventing these restrictions. If you could identify the banner which is playing the sound and take a screenshot of it, that would be very helpful for me while attempting to track it down.

Where are you located? I'm in the United States and don't ever recall seeing ads directed specifically towards women. Ad networks target different campaigns for different regions, but it sounds like they are doing a fairly poor job at it in your region, unfortunately.

What is a "cam-s:censored: banner"?

These types of ads are totally unacceptable, and like audio banners, are supposed to be explicitly banned. How long had you been using the site when the banner appeared? For the record, I understand your plea, and use the site with all advertising enabled to make sure I get the same browsing experience as everyone else. I have not seen anything like this get through the ad filters in several years now.

He meant cam sex banners, like those sites where you can look at women through their webcams being naughty.

Oh, really? And how would you know about websites like that, PJ...? ;)

Seriously, though, if that's true, something very strange is going on, as none of the ad networks I work with serve any adult banners as far as I am aware. One of their foreign affiliates could have been compromised, or some type of malware installed on his computer could be replacing our banners with its own.

Hey, I make up my facts a lot you know, so I can be dead wrong

I am in Canada. In general the ads are relevant to my region, only the odd one or two seem out of place.

The ad was for a Veet hairwaxing product, but it hasn't turned up in the last few days so I suspect it has been pulled (due to complaints lol).

I get the talking household products too (Woolite, Lysol, Gaviscon, Veet, Air Wick etc). Pretty much every second page. When I open up 5 pages sometimes all of them are playing the same ad and not in sync, which is more than 5 times as annoying.

They all have that "InteractiveAdvertising" (?) watermark at the top left, and are all ads for Reckitt Benckiser products.

Ads which contain uninitiated audio, gambling, adult material, error messages, and "extreme animation" are explicitly banned. As I have explained before, the problem is not with the networks I have agreements with - it's with the people they are reselling my inventory to. They have no obligation to respect my rules, and will not hesitate to run high-paying (to them) audio ads at a very low cost (because they don't have to reimburse webmasters for what the banners are actually worth). Basically, it's theft. As a result, I get complaints about banners that I'm not getting paid for and which I don't even want running in the first place.

To make matters worse, there are several ad networks involved. When a network shows all of the banners that they have, I define another to be its "default". This creates several different tiers, any of which could be the network that is unfairly reselling their inventory. I have no way of knowing which tier these banners are being served from, allowing each network I contact to legitimately claim innocence.

At some point, I have to decide how much theft I am willing to tolerate and track down, or if I'd rather just eat the cost of terminating a relationship with a network. Unfortunately, as these reports continue coming in, it may be time to make that choice.

How it means error messages? Rogue antiviruses?
And what means the extreme animation?

I assume he means those ones that say "YOU JUST WON A FREE HINDENBURG CLICK THE LINK TO ACCEPT YOUR PANZER TANK" with flashing lights everywhere that looks like bunnies being detonated in your face. They used to be everywhere, before people realized that other people aren't extremely dumb.

Some advertisements are designed to look like a dialogue box from your computer, with the assumption that you will be more likely to click on it. Extreme animation banners flash many different bright colors very quickly in an attempt to grab your attention. They are both the lowest quality banners promoting dubious products or services.
