Dredg is one of the top bands in my list of all time favourites. Their music is very catchy and verges on being absolutely hypnotic. They're not as well known as bands like Mars Volta, but these guys are just amazing.

If you want a good intro to the band, just download any of their songs (they're all good) or go to their site. A few songs are set to play there. www.dredg.com

3 albums, all well written with some of the best instrumentals I've heard in a newer band.

The guys are also on a small tour right now and the tickets are dirt cheap. I highly reccomend you try and shell out the $10-20 for a ticket and just check them out.

Good description there.

I can't say I'm a F-A-N, but I've been listening to "Catch Without Arms" a lot.

A big 👍 to them.

Check Leitmotif and El Cielo as well. Leitmotif is available at most stores, but El Cielo is apparently out of print so you'll have to find a download 👎

I have "El Cielo" (downloaded) but I don't like it as much as "Catch Without Arms".

I'll give "Leitmotif" a try though. Thanks. 👍

You already know I'm a fan. After all I was the one who told you about them. :p

They're certainly one of the better bands of the 21st century, with their own style of music and not just following the mainstream like sheep. Catch Without Arms is most awesome. As for El Cielo and Leitmotif, I must say I enjoyed the former more but the latter is nothing short of extraordinary too. 👍

I am also a fan now, thanks to emad (and apparently Shannon, too :p). I have Catch Without Arms and Leit Motif and I can say that I enjoy both albums very much. 👍 👍

El Cielo is in my car CD wallet. Well a CD-R copy of it, i'd rather not have the my original cd's go missing if some douche breaks into my car. But they cool brah.

I haven't listened to it for a while, so I think i'll do so on the way home.

I haven't listened to Lemotif for a while now, I think Klostrophobe introduced me to them aaaaages ago though. Or it may have been Dorifto, I forget.

Wow, I have heard more, and I am blown away. I never though Kevin P. from Attack of the Show could be right about something....... Dredg is awesome.

Today I've sat down and listened to Catch Without Arms, I don't know about you guys but Zebra Skin sounds like something from Incubus. I really liked El Cielo but this new album sounds a lot friendlier to someone who has never heard them before. I’m missing the little instrumental interludes, I’ve always had a thing for Brushstroke: An Elephant In The Delta Waves.

Anyway I haven't heard Leitmotif yet, I really should get my hands on it...oh and DiabolicalMask, Dredg must be your secret weapon for great photomode pictures ;).

That was very kind of you. :)

Judging by your final entry this week, I'd say that Catch Without Arms is working on you too as well. ;) 👍

I just got their new album today, not impressed with it yet. I just can't hardly listen to anything since I got into Dream Theater. They just make everything else sound bad. :(

Hey, Dredg fans, how do you pronounce the "G" at the end of the word?
"G" as in "giraffe" or "G" as in "gorilla"?

And what does it mean, anyway?

Just curious. 👍

Integra Type R
I pronounce it Dredj. So that would be G as in giraffe.

Same here. I'm sure it's just pronouced the same as "Dredge". I can't remember why they left the "e" off the end. Someone here will know.

*EDIT* - I couldn't find any info. and I have to go to bed. I did discover that officially, the band name is "dredg" with a lowercase "d".

DiabolicalMask
Hum, ok. I didn't know the word "dredge" existed. :dunce:

Thanks. :D

- According the the band, Dredg means: "It's used in geology--you dredge rivers. We were heavier and we liked the thought of digging deeper." "To scrape the bottom of the bay-- dig up all the scum and dispose of that."

That really helped.

Thanks again. 👍

Tonight was the first night I got to really listen to Catch Without Arms and I'm really digging it. 👍

I've been listening to Dredg for abouttt 3 years now. They are definetly at the top of my music list. Leitmotif is probabaly my favorite of their more recent albums. Catch Without Arms is a great CD, however I feel as if they are getting a little bit too radio friendly. But hey, more power to them if they can get plays on the radio and money, they desverve all of it.

Oh and I saw them at The Catalyst in Santa Cruz and it was the best live music performance I've ever been to. Hands down one of the most talented bands I've ever heard.

I've been a Dredg fanatic since the release of El Cielo. To be honest, I don't like much of Leitmotif - the only worthwhile song for me was Movement II: Crosswind Minuet. El Cielo did changed my perspective on music, ever since hearing it I've been in love. Catch Without Arms is ****ing amazing, but it's a different sound. All 3 cd's have their own unique sound, Leitmotif seemed more punky/alternative, while El Cielo was a surreal journey into the depths of musical boundaries and art in general. Catch Without Arms is a bit radio friendly, but that doesn't take anything away from it. It's still the Dredg i've come to love and connect with, they are still themselves instrumentally and lyrically - they've just "straightened up" a bit and lyrically pertain to more modern life (rather than the sleep paralysis theme of El Cielo). For the uber Dredg geeks I offer some of my Live recordings and some pre-release mixes of songs off Catch Without Arms, just PM me and i'll pm back with a link.

Link to an unreleased song, a present from me to all the Dredg fans on gtplanet.net

I've got their Coquette bootleg sitting around somewhere. What else of theirs do you have?

I've got the Coquette bootleg along with a bundle of Live songs which is most of Catch Without Arms, and another unreleased song.

I had a video of them performign it at one point... but the quality was so poor since it was done by an amateur cameraperson at a live show that i just... wiped it after a watch through :p

I've seen them live 3 times already and bought all their records and a T-Shirt.
Definitely among the greatest bands of our time.

Last time I saw them was about 3 weeks ago. I love every single record (also Orph, Industry demos) and I know no other band being this able to concentrate on their strengths, staying fresh and original and making so inspiring music.
