Any tips for getting used to driving with the H-gate shifter.

hello,
I drive stick in real life and have for many years but I am having trouble getting used to driving with the clutch and H shifter on my fanatec wheel. It just feels completely un-natural to me. Any tips for getting better? I am using GT5.

I have driven a stick for many years also, I dont use a Fanatec but I do use a G25. Practice is the only way to get better and allow for muscle memory to set in and get a feel for it. Practice on the "slower" cars where you don't have to speed shift constantly by up or down shifting. You might even Pick a favorite car and track and run practice laps till you start feeling comfortable. In real life driving I don't use my left foot for braking, but with the G25 and paddles I do. When driving with the clutch I use my right foot for braking. 👍
 
I've a question about the H-gate shifter (I ordered the new Fanatec wheel, ships in Jan).

Can you shift, for example, from 5th directly to 2nd i.e. not 5-4-3-2? If so, does GT5 (and other games generally) recognise that you've gone direct to 2nd in this case?
 
Yes, you can go directly from e.g. 5th to 2nd with an H-shift (I have the G25 and G27).

In GT5, I normally use right foot braking (apart from with the kart) – but there are some situations where left foot braking is better.

In a real car, I almost always use right foot braking – though on tracks there are times when left foot braking is better, such as some turns on this tight little track in France:

I believe you can position the shifter on the left hand side too can't you (I'm from the UK)?

Looking forward to taking delivery of the GT2 wheel. Decided to plump for the clubsport pedals and stand in the end. Roll on January, Xmas will come late this (next) year :)

I'm going trough the same, the one that allways get me is the shift from 1st to 2nd, just keep missing that shift. I think it has more to do with the gas pedal still being just a little depressed... Hope PD takes care of this issue soon!

It is a issue with the game, they added that you had to lift the throtle in GT5p. I have no issues besides the over enthusiastic 1-2 shift and its only in GT5. My dad has trouble in 4-5 for some reason.
