Any tips for my endurance race?

I'm planning a local multi-player endurance race in a few weeks, on Circuit de la Sarthe (2009) Change Weather / Change Time. We'll each have a PS3 and wheel, and it'll roughly last for about 4 hours.

Because there's such a huge variety of skill levels though, I was wondering if anyone had any tips?

We have one player who loves Forza, cars etc, I'm up to level 24 in GT5, and two players that have much much less experience with racing games.

Could anyone recommend any ways to balance the field a bit? Or any particular settings or cars that would come in handy for our race?

Thanks!!

Keep tire wear on, as this will improve strategy and key tire performence... race with hards. But don't tell the others. Also keep down force in the middle.. if your racing with race cars...

Thanks :)

We'll have weather changing on too, as it'll be fun to mix things up along with the day / night cycle. I'll keep the option that effects how slippery the track gets to low though.

When you say "race with hards. But don't tell the others.", what did you mean there?

Middle down force? Will do :) Yeah I'm pretty certain we'll use race cars.

With the speed boost for slower cars, does that give only people who aren't in the lead a speed boost? Or does it give slower cars a constant speed boost, even if they're in the lead, to closer match to the faster cars in the race?

Thanks again!

Boost will speed up all drivers that arent in the lead thus giving a close racing.

When I say use rh but don't tell others I mean that if they're using racing soft, don't tell them to change tires, because you can last longer with racing hards. Oh and never put downforce all way on le mans.. too much

Why not assign cars at different PP levels to accommodate the difference in skill, making the faster guys drive restricted cars and slower guys faster cars.

We just ran a DTM series like that, after weeks of practicing we grouped the drivers into 3 different categories. It worked well, giving everyone a fair shot at victory.

hahaha, sneaky with the tyres ;)

That's a good idea. I'm lending someone a PS3, wheel and GT5 so they can practice, and I'll get another person to have a go on it here too. Since half of us don't own PS3's though, it'll be tricky. But I can get an idea from their best lap times of what little they can play, and try and scale the PP to match. And I can always put boost on if I'm not confident we've got it sorted.

I disagree with locoman, having less downforce gives you a marginal straight line advantage, not enough for it to be worth it because you will loose it in the corners, also less downforce = worse tyre wear, and I would recommend medium tyres, but that's something you might want to test. As for boost, I wouldn't use it because it makes it way too easy to keep up, unless you want a field that's really close together all the time, up to you, but with it on you could pretty much pit twice as often and still keep up with someone faster than you. With balancing people, you can just reduce the power/increase weight of fastest person, or limit the driving aids that person can use, but tbh in endurance racing the field is likely to spread out anyway. Good luck with it 👍

Good to know :) I'll look to use that way of balancing things, rather than boost. Being able to pit twice as often and still keep up sounds like it'd ruin things.

I just realized, because some of these PS3's will be rented with a copy of the game, they won't have access to any cars (other than what you can buy at the start). Hmm. I see I can gift cars with a limit of 1 per day, but that should be ok. I can have the cars ready on two ps3's here, then gift them to the two rental ps3's.

To keep the car, apparently I back up my save to USB before I gift it, then restore it afterwards to keep the car myself. Does that sound correct / like the best way to do it?
