I haven't really tried tuning cars on PCars yet aside from tyres and fuel and am wondering what I should change in the car setups in order to get the best out of them for each track and what effect each setup change will make.

For racing online, check the lobby regs.

-If mechanical failures are OFF, close the radiator completely.

-Brake ducts can usually be pretty closed off, 30% and under unless FA/FB and LMP. Along with ducts, you can run a high brake pressure in a short race and not cook them.

-Cars with boost, turn it all the way up for short races and races with no mech. failures.

-soft tires for short races, obviously.

-depending on track/driving style, downforce plays a big role. For short races, you can usually get away with a little less DF due to not needing to conserve tires, and and not needing to be consistent over a long stretch.

-same thing for traction control. It's good to have it higher for long races with tire deg, but you can get away with less TC in a short race.

Edit: in regards to downforce, sometimes it's better to go with a higher DF setup for short races, especially online. On a track like Leguna Seca, a high DF setup can allow you to survive/be agressice in T1 and T2. In a short race, track position can be king. If you can jump out to an early lead, you can then use the downforce to hold off faster cars behind you. This only works on smaller, tighter tracks where it is tough to pass. On a wider, faster track, it's better to sacrifice corner speed for straight line speed. In online racing, passing in the corners is extremely tough/risky, due to the possibility of the other driver being a meathead. It's much safer to get good corner exits and pass people down the straights.
