Hi all, is there anyone who ownes a Hilux or who is planning to buy a Hilux?

I'm planning on buying a Hilux since it's the strongest pick-up truck in the world, go HERE if you don't believe me.

You guys should really take a look at the 2006 model,

Is the Hilux a relative of either the US market Tacoma or Tundra?

No, the Tundra is an American pick-up truck, the Americans have Thundra, the Europeans Hilux but they are different, very different.

The Tacoma is the American version of the European Landcruiser series, though both are very different.

Search for these at Google, you'll see what I mean :)

Steal it now.No I mean it go and steal it now.Right now.Not later but steall it now.

I assumed you were of age to drive and had money seeing as you said you would buy one otherwise whats the point of this post to show us the topgear video clip? If it is that is sadly old news.

Hmm...we get this Tacoma, a small truck here

We also get the Land Cruiser here, a 4-door SUV (I think it is the same in Europe).

So I guess the Hilux is similar in size to the Tacoma but unrelated?

The mitsubishi trucks pawn toyota ones. The mitsus look cool.
You realize the Mitsubishi Raider is really a Dodge Dakota, right? Nothing exceptional there. And even with the V8 it's fairly slow.

Great, another lunatic.

See if your "mitsus" can stack up against the 4.2L V6 250 HP of a Landcruiser 100.

@skip: Wow, the Tacoma looks almost the same as the Hilux. I thought the Tacoma was a SUV :scared:

Yeah, sorry, the Tacoma is the Hilux. In fact, th Hilux was just "Toyota Pickup" before they decided to call it the Tacoma. And I just sold my second one. This one had 248,000 MILES on the odo, and it still ran perfectly. Mileage plays almost NO factor in depreciation on those things--its all about the truck's actual condition.

Amen, our '95 Previa has 334,000 kilometres and still the engine works perfectly, the only thing what can destroy these cars is the driver itself

The new Hilux is quite pretty and the interior is not bad. Only problem here is the common-rail diesel sold here is not very powerful.

Yep, to clear up all confusion, the Hilux is a Tacoma.

And Y_W, if you're buying a truck to look cool, it's not a truck.

Can anyone find that quote of someone saying that a littlw while ago?

I dont' remember who said it exactly, but it was in the thread about Honda Ridgeline.

Duke said it. I think it's in Omnis's sig.

The (new) Hilux sold in the Phillipines is a great truck. My dad has one, and he has nothing but praise for it. VERY solidly built and my dad got it in this crazy electric blue which makes it look humongous.

We have an ’06 Tacoma (double cab, long bed – thing is friggin’ long). Great, great truck. V6 is very powerful, body is solid, chairs are big and comfy. My only gripes are that it’s difficult to tell where the fenders are (parking near a curb is damn near impossible if you don’t lower the side mirrors), and Toyota could’ve made a few better decisions in the interior, such as not making the center armrest rock hard and not using a super bright metallic center console that throws off sunlight and gives you a massive headache.

I've got a 92 Toyota Pickup, so I guess that's the American version of the Hilux at the time. It's a little regular cab, 2wd thing that's pretty awesome for it's cheap-little-econobox-ness. And it only has 98k miles :)

If it was Duke's quote, I think you guys are talking about this one:
Duke
If you're buying a "truck" and you're scared it will break from doing its job, then you didn't buy a truck, you bought a poser.
It was regarding Honda Ridgeline, so I had to say this in its' defense:

You guys got to be kidding me. Do you really think Honda is targeting people who's looking for work trucks and off-road vehicles? Most consumer's idea of "off-road" is a gravel road while goin' camping. It's obviously an crossover vehicle with a flexibility of an SUV, and its' small bed will allow you to carry stuff that might not fit inside an regular SUV. That bed can't be any longer than 5.5 ft, and it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that this "pickup" wasn't designed for heavy duty hauling.

Ridgeline would be perfect for me, because 1)I love the design 2)I like outdoors, but will never go off-roading(unless my life depended on it) 3)I'd love to own a pickup, but don't need a full-lengh bed.

You guys think Ridgeline a poser. If a guy like me get a pickup truck or off-road truck that I don't need, that would make me a poser. News flash: Not all guys are "pickup" man. :D

P.S. Young Warrior: Why does the (supposedly)Mitsubishi link take me to armored Landcruiser?

By the way, it looks like they've just introduced the Raider here in the states. And NO WAY it pwns the Tacoma--it's nothing but a rebodied Dakota from what it looks like (and what I hear backs that up). Now, the Dakota DOES have a hemi, but that's about all it will have up on a Tacoma.

I'll do my best to hold back and not rip on those people that have the "light" SUVs and the Ridgeline. But in my book, if it doesn't have a transfer case with low range, it's just a child's toy.

Well, since the new Corolla, Avensis, ... came out, the interiour has made drastic changes. When looking inside it's like a BMW M5 or something

BTW:

Both the Avensis and the Corolla Verso now have a D4-D 2.2 177 HP engine,

Not to mention the Celica T-sport and Corolla T-sport which have 192 HP 👍

And what about the Toyota Volta Concept? 400HP, 0-60 mph in 4.03 sec.

What is Toyota up to?

I still have the '89 Hilux my dad bought new. It's not in the best of shape and that is my fault entirely. Infact if you dig up the Crapp Car Club thread you can read all about my Hilux in it's present condition.

A few comments on other topics in this thread:

From what I can see in America, Neither Mitsu nor Izuzu make their own trucks, oh and neither does Mazda for that matter lol. Mitsu=dodge, Izuzu=Chevy, and Mazda=ford. Or could it actually be the other way around hmmmm?

Anyone who calls the Honda Ridgline a truck is ignorant and should be slapped. The oversized minivan doesn't even have a straight rear axle. And could they have made it any more blatant that they copied Chevy's styling? Wow, how orignal....

And on Toyota names: In America Toyota Pickups were called just that, Toyota Pickups, everywhere else they were HiLux's. Now there was the Stout wich I would give your right arm for. Now In America we know HiLuxs as Tacoma's and everyone else still calls them HiLuxs. Tundra's are made in and only sold in North America, As well as the Sequoia(Tundra based SUV). There is only one model of Landcruiser sold here. I'm not sure what it's designation is now. But it's the luxury 4door SUV model. It would be awesome if we could get the new Cruiser truck models here in the states. Those are awesome vehicles. I love my '77 FJ40 but I would love to have a new diesle Cruiser Pickup.

"Anyone who calls the Honda Ridgline is ignorant and should be slapped....". Is this supposed to be "anyone who call the Ridgeline a truck"? I get the feeling that you are attacking my stance, but I think the sentence is incomplete, and I can't argue back to defend my takes if I'm not sure what you are trying to say...... :D

That is your take on what "truck" is. For some people, Ridgeline is a perfectly fine truck. For the hundreth time, not everybody does heavy duty hauling with a "pickup". And before a mob of people start calling me ignorant and telling me what "truck" is:

Definition of Truck

http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary
a wheeled vehicle for moving heavy articles: as a : a strong horse-drawn or automotive vehicle for hauling
http://machaut.uchicago.edu/cgi-bin/WEBSTER.sh?word=Truck
motorized vehicle larger than an automobile with a compartment in front for the driver, behind which is a separate compartment for the freight. A truck may have an inflexible body, or may be jointed as is a tractor-trailer.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/truck
Any of various heavy motor vehicles designed for carrying or pulling loads.
You can tell me all day long, what "truck" should be. But it is still your opinion, which does not prove me, or Honda wrong.
