Any way to get rid of ghost cars in the license races?

Sorry, I searched, but not even sure what words to search for, so I'm posting.

So I bought the game used, no manual - and while the licensing alone is kind of annoying (buy a game only to find out you can't play 90% of it until the programmers give you permission?) the real annoying part is the silly ghost images that show up when you have to keep retrying a section.

Please tell me there's an easy way to get rid of these. Seems real silly to me to think that if I can't do it already, I'll do it better if I'm distracted more.

Again, sorry if this is a repost.

Just push up directional button.
 
In my opinion the ghost car is very handy.
You can easily see the speed changes when using different racing lines.
And as long as you don't see it, it means you're doing better :)

You and me both, Diego 👍. Dustdriver has a point in that it can let you see where you're doing better but when you're not ... :grr:.

Plus, I have a bad habit of starting to push too hard if the ghost is ahead and that's a sure-fire way of wrecking a lap :eek:.
 
And I'd like to point out to the OP that the licenses teach you things about driving the game that you won't learn by trial and error. They WILL make you better at the game.

This I agree with, and I often watch the license demo replays.

But the ghost does much more harm than good for me. Like my old friend sukerkin I find it too distracting and it often causes me to overdrive.

Plus, I tend to run very consistent laps (not necessarily fast, but consistent) and so that means I spend a large part of my time with the ghost hiding all the apexes and braking points.
 
Hmmm ok tried the up directional button as suggested, it's still there.

I do agree that in some cases it's useful, however also as stated when it's blocking your view of the road or worse sitting right on top of your current car it's not at all helpful.
 
From GT4 manual:
During the License Test, players have the option to display a ghost car by pressing up on the direction button, and show the "best racing line" by pressing the [R3] button.
 
Hi Heatmizer

A quick question that's relevant to why your might still have the ghost. Did you wait for the run to actually start before you tried pressing the button? Or did you press it more than once?

It's an "on/off" toggle, you see, so the ghost has to 'present' (i.e. the clock is running) before you can banish it.
 
I have to agree with that... I also find the ghost to be a majour distraction since I sometimes consider it another piece of AI and I try to pass it, not remembering that I can go through it...

I do turn it on and off constantly when I'm at a straight or something, just to ahve a general clue how far ahead/behind I am.
 
I agree that the ghost mostly is a huge distraction from proper driving, so I turned it off immediately when I did the license tests. However, when I failed to see where I could still improve, I watched by best replay with the ghost and immediately spotted where I had done it wrong.
