Just curious to know if there are any other drivers out there like me, i am currently using the DFGT and use only one hand to steer and the other stays on the sequential shifter, i don't really find i am at a disadvantage like this at all, there are occasions on certain tracks like monaco and eiger nordwand where i will use two hands for the tight hairpins, i really don't feel the need on the other tracks as i feel you are hardly using full lock on the majority of the tracks, did the first time trial around the cape ring a while back in the kusabi and finished just outside the top ten using this method, am i the only one or are there other drivers out there that drive like this and do you think using this method that i am at a disadvantage.

The only time im driving with 1 hand is when im frequently shifting <G27.. As for being at a disadvantage, yes I believe so.. reason being your unable to make minimal stearing adjustments as precise as if you were driving with 2 hands IMO.. also trying to correct snap oversteer with 1 hand is NO DICE lol

Thanks for your opinion, reason being i think that i have got used to driving with one hand is down to the chair i use, the seating is low but the arms of the chair are quite high which i find get in the way, i'm an ignorant person though and will not give up my nice comfortable granny chair.

lol cant beat a comfy chair 👍.. I started with a recliner and desk but found out quickly it was to comfy to drive in. so I built a raceseat useing a seat from a mini van

Be nice to see a picture of that

I am just curious Dynamic_Skills do you drive with your shoes on also .. As i do, i find it more realistic feeling on the pedals.

No i don't just my socks, don't like the feel wearing shoes reason being using throttle control through the turns, might sound stupid to you but with shoes on when i am applying throttle through the turns i find the added weight and grip a pain as it feels like my shoes are stuck to the pedals and struggle to apply the right amount of throttle because of this, can see i'm going to get some strange feedback about my issues of wearing shoes now

I use to wear just sock, but i was in a rush one day going out somewhere and i thought humm just one last go at the test (i had my shoes on) and bingo i got gold since then i have wore them and like the feeling , socks are good too but now i have become quirky and like my shoes on i guess like you with 1 hand.

Each to there own as they say, i found with the DFGT pedals that there is not much resistance, an example would be even just resting your foot on the brake pedal registers where with the more expensive setups i would expect the brakes would be a lot more realistic ( G25 or G27 ).

I drive Eiger one handed, especially the twisty bits at the beginning.

whats up sigma, still good enough to put down top times with one hand though

Certainly, life has gotten in the way recently, so apologies for my lack of racing. I will make some time soon though. ;tup:

Depends on the car and how fast it runs through its gears.

And the track as to how often I'll have to change gear, on large amounts of nordschleife I'd drive with one hand.

The back straight on nordschliefe I'll totally sneak a quick smoke, or even check my email... *yawn*

If there are a lot of turns, and I'm not using the paddles, sometimes my hand will stay on the shifter... but I try to keep both hands on the wheel. As sick06.g35 said, it makes a big difference on providing quick and accurate sterring input.

Read this article about "shuffle steering". Sure, maybe you don't shuffle steer when you're one handed, but the same concept about being able to center your wheel more quickly and accurately apply.

Duh, a link would help: http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2010/05/just-say-no-to-shuffle-steering/

Thanks, that was a good read but i have now got into the comfort zone of using one hand and think i would struggle to change my ways, thats not the only problem as i live in a Guest House and can't pick and choose what furniture i can have, lucky my landlady was nice enough to let me have broadband put in really, the only reason i think i adapted to using one hand was because of the chair i use as explained in an earlier post, maybe when i sort myself out with my own place i will start using both hands but until then theres not much i can do.

I usually use 2 hands unless im shifting alot then i will keep one hand on the shifter..

When i do the Indy race with the Viper GTS-R, i keep it floored and one hand on the wheel the whole race lol. I can text or check facebook on my phone while driving haha. Not in real life driving though. Thats not good

I used to drive using one hand - auto gearing, one year ago, for about a couple of months, but that was because of a broken shoulder!
Surprisingly I was quite fast!

Would you say you have improved using two hands or do you think it is just preference as to using one or two hands.

Not pretty by any means but very functional

Now that seems to be the sort of chair i need, at least there are no arms on it to get in my way then maybe i will be able to use two hands, thanks for the pic :)

@ sick06.g35: Nice red controller, wish I had one of those :)

I use two hands, but of course, I'm just a newbie with a wheel - still driving faster with the controller, but I'm closing the gap.

Have you ever tried driving the X2010 with one hand? Just going straight on La Sarthe (no chicane) would be an achievement IMO 👍
