I've been racing with the g27 for about a month, and I've been getting sore. I'm only running the FF between 5-7, but my chest seems to get real sore after about 2 hours of racing, even if i stretch. Any ideas how to fix this, or make it less bad? Hate to be a whiner, but it gets ridiculously sore. I am not out of shape either. Hope someone else experiences similar problems

^That.
Racing wheels have such a low force feedback strength compared to the real thing, you're lucky it's not an actual race car.

Do you race holding the wheel out like this?

Otherwise you probably shouldn't be getting sore.

This was all to be expected. I do not have any problem even running the thing on ten, and really think it nothing to do with why I'm getting sore, but I can't seem to figure out why.

@W3HS I do hit the gym, which makes no sense as to why I get sore from this.

Even compared to real, belt-driven wheels (like those in arcade cabinets) something like a G27 is nothing. It has to be something completely unrelated to you playing games.

actually I do, but not with my arms completely straight out. More or less elbows just slightly bent, wheel about mouth length high at it's highest point.

@Toronado, it is the only time that I get sore. working out, running, etc does not bother me which is why this is quickly annoying. Feels like my deltoid/pec on left side is on fire after about a half an hour, driving me nuts.

Sounds like it's too far away.
Try holding it much closer than you're doing now.
Have it positioned so that your elbows are at a 45 degrees or more.
Look at how close the wheel is in a NASCAR, and they have to go for hours on end.

I spent 16 hours once driving with the DFGT, with only a couple of short breaks for food and a drink. I do have a proper driving rig though, so it's just like sitting in a car. I can only think it may be your driving position to blame. Wheel either too high, too low or too far away.

Oh, and I've never been to the gym in my life! :)

If you're getting sore on the left side of your chest, I'd recommend you go see the doctor to find out what's going on. The internet cannot necessarily give you reasons for why you feel that way, but the doctor can.

Ive played A LOT of racing games over time and have never gotten sore. Sure im sweating or tired afterwards, but not sore. A 10min gokart session is 10x worse than a 12hr Sim session.

I think the issue is not caused by but is rather an underlying issue that is triggered by the G27. See a doctor?

^ This. I was taught this ^ at a training track day. Also hold the wheel at 9o'clock and 3o'clock. Don't give the wheel a death grip just what is required to keep it steady :)

To add, turning power should be supported by the biceps - if the wheel is too far away you'll be twisting from the back, using your shoulders and forearms, but not making as much use of your biceps. The 45 degree angle will help make use of the biceps.

The NASCAR picture above is a bit warped in terms of perspective, it looks like the top of the wheel is above the drivers forehead!!!

Change your seat position (sitting posture) and take a break once in a while.

That's a very misleading title.

But, like most people have said, it could be your wheel position. Remember, your G27 doesn't have an airbag, so if you're sat close to it and you crash, you won't break your jaw and lose your teeth. Then again, I'm not saying you should drive like this...

Yeah I agree with Katiegan. There's no issue of "What happens if I crash?" so just changed the positions around a few times until you find something that's comfortable.

Sometimes I put my head on the windshield like that to switch it up on the long road trips. Makes for such a different driving experience.

That is truly hilarious. But then again . . . who knows how short his legs are. Remember Zanardi?

OP - hope you've had this checked up. As for me, it's the area between my thumbs and forefingers - the fold of skin between gets chaffed on the bottom of the raised humps just above the spokes on my G27 - sometimes its so sore, its burning me while I drive, and I'm beginning to develop callouses just under the first joint of my thumbs.
Ah! Who cares. No pain, no gain.

As for the misleading title - another 'Bait and Switch'?

ive moved the wheel to a less comfortable, but more raceable position and resolved the issue. had my arms stretching way too far.

:banghead: Literally!

Seriously, my Hyundai is small, but, I'm 6' something" tall... Imagine how I sit.

The only thing that hurts, really, when driving, is when you pull an ^ Omnis and smash your helmet off of the interior of your friend's RX-7, because he pulled out of a drift.

I'm 6'4", 300lbs in a 2 door accent. :D Can't drive for more than an hour or two without my knee crying. Shoes off for the long trips. :)

I'm same height, 0.5 weight. :odd:

Otherwise, barring my apparent lack of diet from conversation...
Huzza for those of us who drive Hyundai Accent cars with no shoes!!

Wow. Just ... wow. I guess it's no skin off your nose if the OP does himself permanent injury, right? You got your post in telling everyone how much of a "man" you are, and bugger the consequences.

Sense of humour fail.

Sense of humour fail.

It was the first response to the OP's question. At that point, it could well have been the only response that the OP received.

There are young people around these boards, and who knows how they are going to take such a response.

Quite probably, I'm over-reacting. I'll admit that. There was clearly no damage done here. The possibility is still there when a person comes along asking such a question though, and as anyone with a back injury will tell you, it doesn't take much for an injury to occur that can completely alter a person's health.
