Just wondered if anyone else has tried using iTunes 8.2 yet? I've just downloaded it for my iMac and it's ridiculously slow, it takes about 2 minutes to open any file over 30 minutes and about 45 seconds to start playing any file over 15 minutes. All of the files open without problems using Quicktime but iTunes simply freezes up when it goes anywhere near them!

Anyone got any idea of a possible fix? Apple's support is useless unless you have AppleCare, and if possible I'd prefer to go back to iTunes 8.0, is there any way of doing this?

I use iTunes 8.2 on my MacBook Pro and it runs very nicely, I experience none of the problems you are referring to. Have you tried a fresh install?

I've tried a fresh install and the problem remains. While it's trying to play the files it is causing Firefox to slow down too. Strangely, once the file is playing then I can begin to play 4-5 other long tracks before it decides to mess up again. However during this time if I right click the file and choose 'Get Info' it takes another 45 seconds or so to bring up the information window.

iTunes 8.2 works absolutely fine on my iMac. Couldn't possibly think of what's causing your problems. :indiff:

It's really puzzling me, as 2 hour long podcasts are playing without any issues, as are video podcasts! Just now I tried loading a file from my external HD while it was in sleep mode and it worked fine, so the problem only appears to be when the HD is active. I'm totally confused!

Open up Activity Monitor. Have it sort by CPU usage. Open up Console.app. Try playing back another song. Do you see anything unusual?

This was one of the first things I tried, it said that the CPU and memory usage was fine, it was the same as normal.

Could be that your HDD is dying?

Everything else is fine though, just iTunes! The same files open with no problems in Quicktime and everything else.

I did, however, notice that I still had my iTunes installation window open and it hadn't been ejected. I ejected it and this seems to have helped, most files now play without issues and only some of the longer ones only take 10 seconds or so to load, which I can deal with.

This is happening again. It was fine for a few days, and then when I imported Florence and the Machine's album it has had trouble playing a few of the files on it. It takes about 20 seconds to load a 4 minute song. I've tried repairing disk permissions (Which revealed a LOT of errors, but not many to do with iTunes) and updating iTunes to 8.2.1 but it's still proving a problem.

I did a quick Google search and it appears that a lot of Mac users are having the same problem. So at least it's not just me!
