Anyone frustrated by the Seasonal Time Trials?

Instead of making us spend 15 minutes hunting for a suitable car, and another half an hour making sure it passes through the regulations to find out that everyone uses the same car for the top times.

Funny thing is, if the unlucky us used cars which are different from those used by the top guys, we know our cars aren't going to be competitive, so what's the point? We will have to spend another 30 minutes on choosing the right car and modifications.

So why not just leave us no choice but to use the same car, and the same settings?

And please extend the time trial duration to like, say, 6 months or just make it permanent?? Please understand the hard work that goes into making quick laps. I believe that many Gran turismo players are working adults, who will actually spend that much time on time trials knowing that their records will go moot 2-3 weeks later?

Or why not just create a new online time trial leaderboard to satisfy the time attack crowd instead of mixing it with the seasonal drift and races?
 
People please vote for Global Time Trial events as a new feature!

Yes there are people who argue that there's too many cars to implement the same system as GT prologue. So why not create historical, or meaningful time trial boards like for example,

1) bring back the Nissan 370z for Indianopolis.
2) Ferrari F1 cars time trials at Cote D'Azur or other F1 tracks?
3) Nissan GTR stock at the Nurburgring Nordischleife. (Nissan's stock car record)
4) Mclaren SLR/SLS at the Nurburgring Nordischleife. (Mission 34 anyone?)
5) HKS CT230R at Tsukuba to emulate its lap record?
6) Honda NSX at Suzuka Circuit, to honour Aryton Senna.
7) Ford GT40 at Circuit de la Sarthe

I'm sure there's more good match-ups, we just have to think, anyone else think this is a good idea?
 
They need to add Friends leaderboards, seeing as I can't get number 1 I don't bother even trying. If it had friends leaderboards I would actually do these time trial events. I like the tome limit, and love that it's 2 tracks a week as you can focus more...but for me, I need friends leaderboards.

I've only actually entered the very first time trial event due to this feature not being included.
 
Yeah I hope PD brings in these in the next 1.06 update.
 
Yes the lack of leaderboards on GT5 is baffling. Whilst I realise they couldn't do similiar leaderboards like GT5P there are many ways around this. For instance we could have had leaderboards for only premium cars or leaderboards based on bhp i.e 50bhp,100,150,200 etc.

A Spec, Licences, Special events should of had leaderboards and more importantly friends leaderboards. Would of been great fun comparing these times with your friends.

Do expect many replies on this thread though because like kaz/PD other members are also living in the past!
 
I get the idea behind the tweaking/tuning aspect. It's flawed tough because generally one car sticks out so it may as well just be that car it's restricted to with tuning.

The thing that turns me off it completely though is it's seasonal nature. Expending so much effort on tuning and driving only for it to not have either any reward or it being permanent just doesn't appeal to me.

If they pull their finger out with leaderboards based on car/track I'll be happy for the seasonal events to be left as is for any one who does like the format but at the moment it's missing even Prologue's level of features for TT.

The Seasonal Time Trials look fun ... I haven't tried them yet with my wheel as I haven't had the car to do them with yet ... But as soon as I have the car I'll definately give it a go ;)

I wouldn't say frustrated though, yes everyone uses the same car but come on, if you can get the transmission set perfect, handling set perfect, aero set perfect, LSD set perfect then you have a good shot, it is all about eeking out every last HP and setting your car up perfect, which, to me, sounds like great practice if nothing else.
 
They should make some of them non-tuning time trials like in Prologue, not everyone can tune well enough to compete or even likes doing it, so PD are cutting out a large majority of gamers this way, but I'm not at all supprised to be honest.

What they should do is have 2 time trials both with the same car & track, in the first one you can tune your car & in the second one you can't. That way they would please everyone, which is something PD are generally awful at imo.

I must admit they arn't what I hoped they would be. You have to spend a tedious amount of time to find a suitable car (sometimes only avaiable in the UCD) only for people to use setup glitches to achieve times which cant be done with what should be realistically the optimum for the car. It would probably work out fairer it they locked the set-ups (apart from brake balance for people who dont use ABS) and gave you a set car to achieve a time in.

I hope there is more to come regarding scoreboards. Things looked really encouraging in Prologue. Id be extremely surprised if this is the best they could come up with for GT5

It's mapped to "up" by default on the DS3
 
I think it's possible to keep the global time trials fairly simple, by keeping tuned/untuned cars separated. For the untuned car section, polyphony would need to implement a function, before you begin a time trial, that resets the car's dynamic performance settings to default and thus is the same for everyone. Then add a 'tire type' filter to the Time Trial searches for tuned/untuned...

I think that would make things almost perfect from my perspective.... Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

eg Appoximately 1038 cars, 70 track layouts, 9 tyre types, plus tuned and untuned will equal
1038x70x9x2=1,307,880 different leaderboards required

There's enough tool for them to do it, it's not that complicate. Maybe we wont be able to download ghost but sorting isnt really difficult on computer. FM2 did it brilliantly I dont see why GT5 wouldnt.

But did you see the setup the "team skills" boys were using on the deep forest TT a few weeks back in the race prepped RX7, you'd never in month of sundays set your motor up with those settings. Ride height lifted to max and dampers max stiffened.

I think it would be better to be given a car with locked settings, then it's all down to the driver, not freaky setups.

I don't see why this thread should be closed, it targets the general gameplay and appeal instead of the seasonal time trials itself in my opinion.
 
they should simply provide the car and allow you to change its settings before the race.

I know, my post was aimed at bonobos, as he seemed to be suggestig TT's for every car/track/tyre combo.
 
Or PD could use course creator to make a course that tests all aspects of a car. We would have to download the course and leaderboards would be tricky but oh well:)
