Bit of a random question I know lol but I have little 700W portable 2 stroke generator with a pull start that I use once a year for camping. The other day while sorting my shed out I pulled it out and filled it with fresh oil and petrol then gave it a good pull on the starter but was greeted with the sound of nothing. :ouch: Tried again over and over but still nothing, In the end my arm got tired so gave it a rest. Now I dont have much experience with basic 2 stroke engine like this so was just wondering if any of you guys out there got any suggestions? or any basic ways to go about fault findind? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers guy

First make sure, if there is a fuel cut-off valve, that it is open. Kinda stupid, but I did that with a lawn-mower once, spent an hour trying to start it, and all along the valve was closed, opened it up, and it started on the second pull.

Check the spark plug, or just replace the plug. Check your air filter, or just remove it, for the purpose of troubleshooting. If still nothing, check the pull start mechanism, too ensure you are getting a spark.

I'd start at the spark plug. Get a new one (they're cheap) and check inside the cup too at the condition of the connection.

Was it put away with gas in it? It can turn into some nasty stuff in the fuel system.

That's exactly what I was going to say - particularly if it is a 2-stroke and you mix the oil into the gas.

Remove the fuel line and see if it is plugged, or reduced, by gummy gas.

I say pour some seafoam in the carb and let it sit then try to start it again. BTW, Ive never heard of a 2 stroke genny, weird.

I dont know to much about generators, but I do know quite a bit about 2 strokes.

I was going to say something about the gas lines, but over time and climate changes, the fuel can crystallize and/or turn to gunk.

Go through the fuel system- New lines, filter, take apart the carb and clean it.

Yeah, Bad fuel, bane of all small engines. There's so little that can go wrong on a two-stroke.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys much appreciated 👍 Unfortunately I haven`t had a chance to have another look at it, been a bit busy with work but hopefully will have a play around with it tomorrow and let you all know how I get on. Cheers guys
