Anyone here race with no (or little) tuning?

I seem to prefer setting a PP limit, say 500 or 550 and then making the only changes you are allowed as weight or power options only, to get to the PP limit, anyone else here do this?

Apart from the odd car, I find most to be pretty similar lap times. It makes for some great close races as tuning doesn't really come into it. Of course you have to rely on other players being honest about no tuning.

Race settings are: 500pp (or whatever feels good on the day), weight and power only, sports medium (or soft if 550pp) all aids off except for ABS.

Anyone else on here do something similar? And if so what are your "go to" cars?

I've just recently found that almost all of the cars seem to drive perfectly balanced with the default settings on suspension, and the only things I change now are the LSD and the weight balance to make them handle to my driving style.....It's been since I started using the AS control too though, so I have to assume that plays a part. It makes me think that the physics of the game are designed as such for those with little to no knowledge of tuning, to enable a more pleasant game playing experience. You know, more "arcade" like. I mean, you CAN change those options, to provide a more specific handling experience I guess, but after all, it would seem counterproductive for the creators of the game to make EVERY car hard to handle. Out of all the cars I've tried, which is about a third of all those in the game, I've only found 2 or 3 that I'd consider "undriveable". Pretty good numbers I'd say, using default settings. Well, default suspension settings anyway. I use traction control usually on 1 or 2, ABS on 1, and as I said before, Active Steering, usually on mild or strong, which honestly doesn't feel much different driving it than with it off, so I don't even know how much it "helps".

The ones I found undriveable also happened to be those that were needed to get fast times in seasonal events, which are done with pathetically useless tires that provide no grip, so take that with a grain of salt. All the adjustments in the world don't make a car handle if the tires suck.

Oh, and my "go to" cars? the GT-R Concept (Tokyo Motor Show), the McLaren MP4-12C, Toyota TS030 Hybrid, Mazda 787B, and the Pescalaro C60 Hybride for those LeMans type seasonal events, if the Mazda LM55 VGT doesn't work.

You make a good point there. In general, the only things the real cars may have are ABS and TC, so if anything, for a realistic experience, they should not be driven with anything more, right?

It would be nice though, if when you make mods to the suspension the car would react the same way as it would have done as in real life, for example camber and front and rear ride height do not simulate real life changes.

Thanks (and I'll look more into this) but I allow changes to weight and power only. This way you can get cars to the same PP without tinkering with handling, my thinking on this is so you can race a M5 vs Merc vs Lambo vs Nissan etc and have them all same PP with "factory handling". A more realistic race than a stock MP4 12C vs stock M5 which is just no comparison.

ABS I still use on GT6 as sometimes it is a little bit unpredictable but I do not use TC in any car now. As for the actual topic, the problem is that a lot of cars are either unsteering bricks or have too short or long gears in stock, so (as we found in our club when trying to find a suitable car for a season with no tuning allowed), our options were very restricted. Even with tuning prohibited, there are still some tuning options allowed, such as brake balance, which I used to very good effect at Silverstone in that season, by beating second in qualifying by a bigger gap than second beat last.

I always change the toe, camber and differential on a new car because otherwise it usually feels absolutely woeful to drive.

I do not have a particular go-to car for a PP class (although racing car 600PP is always the TS030 and 700 is always the Judd C60). It very much depends on the circuit.

If you can find a good car at stock which can provide decent racing, then great. But your options can be somewhat restricted.
