So my neighbor gave me a 61" sony big screen tv. The catch is, it goes in and out of color. I was reading about the blinking diagnostic light on the front of the machine. If I understand it correctly,
4 times, Diagnosis: Vertical deflection stopped. Possible causes: +- 15V is not supplied. (D board), IC8003 is faulty. (A board) Symptoms of the problem: TV has entered standby state after horizontal raster, Vertical deflection pulse is stopped, Power line is shorted or power supply is stopped.
That doesnt line up with no color though. I pretty much know nothing about this thing, and if I get it working it will be a great way to make a quick buck. I tried registering on the hometheaterforum.com but I havent received a conformation email. So, anyone know anything about this? The model number is KP-61HS30

Well, generally when a neighbour gives you a 61" Sony for free, there's something seriously wrong with it. That or they're suffering from the effects of intravenous drug use. And, of course, if it doesn't work, essentially what he's done is given you a very large heavy box to dispose of, saving him the hassle.

It's worth bearing in mind that the set you're talking about is at least 6 years old now, and, seeing that it's a 61 incher, has probably been used pretty regularly. I know nothing about projection TVs, so I did a quick Google and found this:

Like I said, I know nothing about that kinda TV, but it seems pretty likely that a major component will eventually burn out like it does in any other TV. Hope that helps in some way, but I really wouldn't count on 'making a quick buck' - especially when you consider the age of the TV. It's probably not worth a great deal anyway, and when you include the hassle of collection and replacement parts, it just doesn't make sense.

Its funny you say this, because he MIGHT be suffering from drug use, and he is a garbage man so he would have no problems getting rid of the unit. If it is garbage, then I'll get rid of it, but not until I figure out how much it will cost to fix it. If I can make some money on this I will but if its junk, no worries.

You accepted a giant sealed 61" container, sorry, TV from a drug user? Might not be worthless after all....

You sure you don't have a ground loop?

Well I talked to my dad because he had someone fix a tv like a year ago. He gave me the number, and I called him. He told me that it would be worth fixing so hes gonna come and take a look at it next week. If its not too much to fix, I'll have him fix it.
