I love how the most adamant defense comes from the most ignorant point of view... Kaz said the game was released unfinished... and your logic that simply having patches means it was not complete is a really weak attempt at flawed logic: patches to fix technical issues or improve performance are not a sign of unifinished, however patches to introduce promised content that wasn't there at release is exactly a sign of an unfinished game.
Who ever said that the game is going into Beta obviously has never played a BETA before, or atleast is telling lies.
The game is great fun, and definatly my favourite so far. Thing is, ofcourse it could be better. The only reason it gets so much bad press here is because people were expecting different things, and tons of content like GT4, if you imagine the content of GT3 or GT1 comparrible with the standards of today's racing games, you are getting a very full game.
Ofcourse there is more this game can have, but I'd be lying if I said people saying this game is "Bad" or "incomplete" doesn't make me feel angry.
To the guys saying it feels like beta, or alpha: give me a break. Are you trolling or what?
Does it lock up? No.
Does it get you stuck in menus with issues? No.
Does it have screen tears or any other kind of serious bug? No.
Does the online communication have issue? No.
What are you talking about?

Thats not beta testing, that just means you wish it was different.
Big Deal. I wish iMovie on my mac didn't use an intermediate codec when converting HD content like final cut pro does so I guess I should go whine instead that its beta.
I think it's pathetic. If your that unhappy hit up ebay with your copy and stop whining. Or go make a company, learn how the biz works and make something that satisfies you.

Both of you guys, have you ever played Minecraft? It's still in Alpha, is a barrel of fun, runs reasonably well and basically goes against everything else you have set forth as rules for why GT5 is not a beta.
definition: a nearly complete prototype of a product (as software) <released in beta> <the beta version>
So when the game is released unfinished (thus incomplete) and we are still waiting for features a month after release... that is pretty much the exact definition of a beta.
And since as I said the defense usually comes from a position of ignorance, before you ask what feature were missing:
Invite friends from within game (back of box) still not there
Race Bspec against other Bspec still not there
Bspec anywhere still not there
Online events still not there
Online matchmaking still not there
Cr for online races was not there at launch
Mechanical damage not there at launch
The list goes on.
Beta through and through.
