Is anyone familiar with Konami's 'Bemani' spinoff games that simulate music like GT simulates driving? There are several titles, and there are FEW arcades that contain these rare treasures. DDR is the most common one, and I'm sure a few of you guys have even laughed upon first seeing people on it. There's also Beatmania, a DJ simulation where you hit a sequence of buttons to the melody on screen. There's keyboardmania, drum mania, guitar freaks, para para paradise (a rave simulation but it sucks), IIDX (DJ simulator). If anyone is interested in reading more about these games..here are links.

that should be all you really need to get started on finding a game in your area to get familiar with! 👍 👍

I play DDR sometimes in the arcade. I have Stepmania at home though. ;)

My local arcade has DDR Extreme (x2) and Para Para Paradise. PPP looks incredibly stupid.

Yeah Pump It Up is decent when I can play it on the boardwalks in the summer. It has a center footbutton, and 4 corner buttons. DDR has a d-pad footbutton setup like any game controller. Stepmania is pretty good, but I use Dance With Intensity personally (DWI). I don't have a USB ddr pad so I use my keyboard  and I still can AA most songs with it...It's like the times I used to be fat and lazy and perfect combo'd Max300 on DDR MAX using both hands, one on the dpad and the other on the shape buttons..maybe I'm ambidextrous? 💡 heh

Para Para isn't exactly a rave simulator ;) It's just that rave kiddies started playing the game like they're high. It was ridiculous seeing those "ravers" open glowsticks at the arcades just to play that game. Para Para was a dance craze in Japan.... but it's died off now. I wonder how many people actually bought those Para Para VCD/DVDs

I used to play a lot of Beatmania but eversince I lost my controller I've stopped playing it. And BTW you forgot about Dance ManiaX :p

Oh yeah, I play that DDR thingie, it's so hip.

I have a Cobalt Flux pad sitting pretty with 7th, 8th, Max, Max2, Extreme, Party Collection, and Festival on my PS2 HDD. Plus, I slam down a few at the Extreme machine in the food court in the local mall after work.

My USB to PS adapter is in the mail now, I will be able to play Stepmania in a few days.

I PLAY DDR 2! its alot of fun. I usually play on hard mode for most songs. I don't play as much as i did now. I proably be lucky to get through a beginner mode. :)

Hiya! :D :O  Meow! (='.'=)

I play DDR2 once in a while at my friends house! :O I dont own one because I simply think that the dance pad is a waste of my space! :)

When you go to the arcade, what three songs do you choose to play?

These are my current three:

Sync (Extreme Version)
Burning the Floor (Blue Fire Mix)
Cartoon Heroes (Speedy Mix)

I like Sync because it just might be the loudest song (next to R3) in the game. It really gets those subwoofers going. Burning the Floor is my current favorite song, because it really does feel like I'm burning the floor when I'm playing it, ha! I use Cartoon Heroes just to show off. The jump sequence is insane. A guy in a BK uniform jumping around like a retard? Priceless.

wow..good rebirth my thread got :D

my top 3:

Sync also (just got into the song a month or so ago when I saw someone do it)
the first song under M in extreme its some Japanese title happy hardcore song..
Sakura (the steps are jus like drumbeats..I love it)

decemberfenix, that "M" song is called Door of Magic by a.s.a. The players around here call it the "M" song too. :)

I have a new list catered to Heavy, 1.5x.

Colors
Holic
Still in My Heart (Momo Mix) Challenge Mode!

I used to be a DDR freak back in HS right when DDR was just getting popular. I don't remember what it was called but i played the one player version and then later they brought in the two player version. I was good enough to play a two player song by myself but I couldnt really dance. :p

I remember finishing a song once and then all of a sudden people started clapping behind me. I turned around and was like WTF ... oh :sly:. I knew the guys that worked at the arcade and sometimes they would let me play for free. I don't know how much they cost to play today but it was like a dollar back then.

DDR Solo is the one player version. DDR really has nothing to do with dancing, but what else would you call it?

This guy at the arcade gives me tokens in exchange for food.

Speaking of food...

I saw another overweight person trying to play DDR yesterday. Sure, if you want to lose weight, DDR is a good way to do it, but don't do it at the arcade. Especially if you try to do Heavy when you are obviously not in physical shape to do it.

This overweight teenage girl tried to do Waka Laka on Heavy, no modifiers. After failing miserably, she sits back down at the food court and continues eating her Panda Express uber meal. At least she didn't order anything from me...

No wonder players hate waiting in line for these idiots.

Me I used to play weekly at the arcade. For those who have never played this game, I strongly recommend to play it at the arcade(Btw, don't feel rewarded to do it with your hands...). It's really good for the stamina & the precision for where you put your foot.

I can do all the 9 footer's, but I still suck somehow. Lately, I see a lot of new players that have become a lot much better than me at my arcade corner.(I think playing Battle Gear 3 & initial D V.3 is more fun though...)

Bringing this back.

Its great.
Got into it today and can hold my own on Standard after 2 hours.
I love Kick The Can and a few others.

Endless is an awesome mode.

It's great to see more and more people play DDR.

I can do 8 foot without problems. I still have a tendency to double step where I shouldn't.

Then don't go to the Convo. Forum.

Apparently, you're "gay" if you play DDR. And yet it comes from someone who listens to a depressed looney.

I just read through that string of posts and apparently, those who point and laugh at those who do play are the true faggots. There is nothing wrong by playing DDR. Not only are you playing a videogame, you are losing weight and improving stamina as well.

I get nothing but praise when I say I play DDR and I have no problem being a 20 year old on a dance pad who, if you laugh, will indeed kick you ass.

Hey, another DDRer here. Love the Stepmania and anything 7th mix and beyond. A cobalt flux is a bit heavy on the wallet to get shipped to the UK though. I'll tackle a 7 footer/standard for a general play, might try an 8/heavy if I'm feeling confident. :)

I have to say that most people I know have laughed, then wanted a go, then shut up once they've decided "it's too hard". :D

Lastly, why should folk have a problem with a 20 year old? You should see the weird looks a 25 yo gets...
