Hey I briefly saw tha tyou can play this game with a super high res of 1080 in the options of the output. Anyone have a tv or set up that supports that?

Just curious, is it really that much better than regular??

ps I probably shouldn't ask because then it will just make me jealous and then I will be yearning to see it in high res. heh.

it makes a HUGE difference...

I just bought monster HD cables for the ps2... best $50 evAr

only thing I dislike is the flicker/green blocks on refresh

I'm running GT4 on a Hitachi 50" LCD Widescreen through Monster Component cables in 1080i resolution. Its an amazing picture, and a huge difference over normal RCA's. For sound, i'm running the optical cable into a 750 watt Technics reciever with 5.1 Dolby with an 8 speaker surround. Its the only way to experience "the real driving simulator" in my opinion. :sly:

With a DFP and a "cockpit" of course :sly: Hmmm if only I could afford any of this :scared:

I recently bought a 5.1 sub & satellite speaker set, a real dirt cheapo one, nothing spectacular but it does "virtual surround" which actually works ok when you set the game to "surround" sound (not digital tho). It maps the front left speaker to left channel, centre speaker to a mono output of left+right channels, front right to right channel, rear speakers to any sound that is out of phase (eg. engine noise when you are in 1st person or roof view), and subwoofer is anything of low-ish frequency. I know its crap compared to a proper home theatre setup but for US$50 I thought it was worth it, kinda enhances it a bit and sounds a lot better than TV speakers alone.

What are the specifications one should be looking for when choosing the right 'HD' TV setup?...

<I've read through this & other threads but all the information looks foreign to me :confused:>

I ask because I just came across a pretty decent 30' inch HDTV from DELL which is reasonablly priced but I'm not sure if the specs of the TV are right for providing the optimal gaming experience for GT4....

The specs are as follows:
Connectivity/AV Input
Tuner - Coax (One coax input)
Composite = Yes (CVBS) (2)
Component = 2 sets (2 HDTV Component)
DVI = Yes (DVI-HDCP) (1, shared with PC)
S-Video = Yes (S-VHS) (2)
Audio = RCA (L+R) (7 inputs)

Connectivity Output
Video - Tuner Input = Composite (CVBS)
Audio = RCA (L+R)

Connectivity - PC Input
PC Analog Input = VGA 15 pin D-sub
PC Digital Input = DVI (1, shared with AV)
PC Audio In = Yes

Would someone be able to indicate if this would be something worth considering?

Thx-

I'd buy one with an HDMI input. PS2 doesn't support it. Compenent is the highest PS2 supports. But the PS3 will support HDMI, so might as well be prepared for it.

Running on 1080i is crazy. Pictures are so crisp. You can notice the edges perfectly on everything, trees, signs, people, and most important the detail on the cars. Only problem is sometimes in a high poly track like El Capitan within a race with 5 other cars it lags up hardcore. Still loads of fun.

bustwave.

But the game resolution is still the same, so I can't see why it would run any slower when outputting the video signal in 1080i. It shouldn't have anything to do with the performance of the game.

I've heard at times the game's resolution (which I'm guessing is 640x480, maybe 800x600 in menus and time trials?) is not really high enough to be displayed at 1080i and tends to look a bit shabby in places, any truth to that? In comparison, video that is displayed in 1080i is usually carried in 1920x1080, much higher than GT4's display mode.

I play it on a 46" Samsung DLP with Psyclone Component Cables and picture does look much better in 1080i. However the entire screen is filled with these vertical lines with a big circle in the middle of the screen. At first I freaked out & thought there could be a problem with my TV, but then none of my other games have this issue so I guess it's just GT4. :yuck:

I play GT4 on a 50" VieRa but i run it in the original format WHATEVER that is. I just can't imagine an old PS2 can render an image worth buying expensive cables and stuff for.

I'm happily waiting for PS3 and GT5, enjoying GT4 everyday as it is...which is great! 👍

That's a visual effect that PD has put into the GT game series starting with GT3. Can you figure out what the effect is?

Visual effect? Why didn't PD get rid of this problem? It's so annoying to see a beautiful car being covered in bunch of vertical lines, especially on the windshield area. It's also very annoying when you crashed into a wall in first-person view, since the lines become more vivid during the collision effect. And what's up with the big circle in the middle of the screen? It's most noticeable when you drive on a sunset track such as Hong Kong or Twin Ring Motegi. :grumpy:

The circle is there to help people focus or find the car they are watching. Im guessing PD thought about the visually challenged people who play gt4.....or Pd just thought it would help everyone when a car is behind a cloud of smoke, coming over a hill or coming through a dark tunnel.
