Anyone use Clear 4G Internet?

I'm growing really tired of our current ISP and how it always seems to crash now. And I've been looking into Clear as a replacement for our current home internet and was curious to see if anyone had any experiences/horror stories about it.

I've heard good things, from people that live near the towers/repeaters.
Reliability and speeds are poor.
I wouldn't consider them unless they were very cheap compared to the competition.

I use to work for Clearwire back in 2006. I honestly couldn't hate them more, at least based on that time with them.

They were very adamant about packet shaping and other nonsense to control bandwidth, and so it was more or less only useful for e-mail and web. Downloading large files or even gaming was too much to ask it seemed.

If you get a full 4G signal, you can expect speeds that fluctuate from around 50 kbps to about a peak of 300 kbps. There might be some rare moments when it very briefly ramps up to 500+ kbps, but don't count on getting steady speeds like that.

That's my experience here in San Diego, at least.

Well here's the thing. My current ISP AT&T offers two different versions of DSL, we've got the older standard apparently and are currently paying 45$ a month for 6016kbps Downstream and 768kbps upstream. Now under normal circumstances it would be a great connection, and it was great for the many years we've had it. But within the last 3 or so weeks they apparently did some "work" to the local node and it literally broke everything. Our service has become so unreliable that I can't do a Skype video call without it crashing. When before it used to be fine and I could do stuff in the background. Now it'll just.. go over the bandwidth and reset the router. It isn't fun.

I've already gone and had a chat with a sales rep from Clear and according to him we'd be able to get roughly 8-9Mbps downstream and the maximum of 1Mbps upstream. To me, it sounds miles better. The tower is really close by as well so I think it has a pretty good chance of working out really well. At this point it's either Clear, or complain to AT&T that they messed up really bad and hope they switch us over to the newer DSL.

But still, does anyone have any actual accounts of it other than hearsay?

Can't you get Uverse or comcast?
If clear is your last/only choice, go for it. Try them out and if anything goes to crap, you have 30 days to cancel, right?
I only know a guy who set up some of the towers/repeaters in chicago and the suburbs.
It really depends on the tower/repeater and the capacity at which they are. There's the throttling, peak time speed crawls.
You would have to be really close to a main tower to get the 8-15Mb speeds.
