Hello, I would like to bring up a very common issue that I am coming across now with my GTP iPhone app. Every time I try to load about 80-85% of the threads, it is to no avail, and I get this message (would post picture, but wouldn't ya know it, I'm on my iPhone):

Parse Error
The remote server sent an unknown response. This could be a result of the forum software plugin being outdated. Tap the "report" button below to send this report to support for analysis

I'm not usually the one to complain, especially because I know having an app like this costs the site money, but this issue has really hampered my site usage, as I am on the go a lot, I like being connected to GTP wherever I am, and not necessarily stuck at my computer every time I visit the site.

Anything I can do to fix this? Or do I just have to wait for an update? It's a bit confusing to me as it doesn't happen on all threads, but is a very common issue on most of them. Thanks in advance for any help 👍

That's an unusual error; do you get that while accessing the site through a particular WiFi network, or via your cell service provider?

I was having the issue across the board for a while, but I deleted and re-installed it, and now the issue is gone. Thanks though 👍

I have issues with the app crashing,Connection warnings, long loads, and lag

These problems are quite common with myself sometimes, even after downloading the app again, but they are minor issues I can deal with.

I've had the same error message with Android, so it's not just an Apple iOS thing. If I hit Force Close, and reopen the app, it's all good.

I'm getting the same parse error thing on the app. So it may be more than a few of us encountering that issue. Probably worth looking into.

Yeah, after deleting and re-installing it went away, but now it is unfortunately back for me :(

Hey Jordan. I'm not sure if you've looked into this problem. But the "parse errors" are become increasingly more frequent on the app. I'm encountering the error with about 70%-80% of the threads. Sometimes entire sub forums. It's made the GTP app severely unreliable. So much so that I've stopped using it, and just use the mobile site when I'm on the go.

Please look into it. If you need any info from my end, I'll be more than willing to provide it.

I will talk with the Forum Runner platform's developer to see if he can provide any insight to the problem, but I'm not sure we'll be able to totally resolve it. Nothing has changed about the software for several months now and I cannot re-create the error on any of my devices. Regardless, I will let you know if there are any updates.

Thanks for looking into it Jordan, as this issue has been plaguing me for quite some time now

Well I'm not sure what you did to fix the issue, or perhaps it just somehow resolved the issue on it's own. But the app is working issue free for me now. No more "parse error" messages. 👍

This issue is happening to me now.

It started about a month ago, when every once in a while, the parse error message will come up. I could usually just go back and reload the thread, and that will solve the issue. However, in the past few days, the issue has become increasingly frequent, and I'm at the point where 80-90% of the threads will give me a "parse error" and even exiting or force quitting the app will not solve the issue.

The exact error message that I get is: "The remote server sent a [sic] unknown response. This could be a result of the forum software plugin being outdated. Tap the "Report" button below to send this report to support for analysis." It gives me an OK and a Report button; the OK button just dismisses the message, and I'm not sure the Report button actually does anything.

I am using an iPhone 4S on iOS 5.1.1 on AT&T's network with GTPlanet Mobile App Version 1.5.14.

Jordan,

my iOS app is crashing all the time when I'm opening threads with lots of pages. Any way to fix this?

iPhone 4S, iOS6, most current version of GTP

I can't re-create any problems, but the Forum Runner platform on which the app is built should be receiving an update within a few weeks to address all of the new bugs caused by iOS 6. Stay tuned. 👍

Anyone else on Android have the app freeze on them when loading pages? Says "Contacting remote server" or something and either freezes or just sits there and loads. Fairly annoying, and getting worse.

I may just delete the app and re-download it.

I've only encountered that issue if I am in some remote area where reception is not the greatest. Other than that, my RAZR zips through this site rather easily.

Only over the past few days I have had notifications keep popping up on my iPod Touch for private messages that have been viewed on both the app and my laptop. I clear the notifications by entering the app and then a period of time (varies) later the notifications come back, for the same messages.

Likewise. I tried turning off notifications but they keep on coming. I even removed the thread I subscribed to and yet they still pop up.....

Funnily enough, I'm having the same issue. Every 2 hours or so the notifications pop up, even after I've turned them off..

Almost like clockwork. I just noticed too that my last post was timed yesterday at10:06pm when it was actually around 2pm. Maybe the server clock needs adjusting??

Sorry for the inconvenience, guys. The push notifications are handled by the Forum Runner service, on which the app is built. I can confirm they are experiencing major problems with the push notification infrastructure, and they are working to resolve them now.

In the meantime, you can adjust your push notification settings via Settings > Notifications > GTPlanet. You can also disable to configure push notifications from GTPlanet's app via this page, when you sign into your Forum Runner push notification account.

Yeah I too have been having problems but I had them before and as Jordan said now the notifications are but the forum runner service. I'm just riding it out and every few hours my iPhone has a little fit.

I tried last night and believe they still pushed. Very possible I turned them back on while messing with other settings. Not a problem at all. Still the best app/site/forum community out there as far as I'm concerned. Thanks GT Planet.

Edit: received notifications and my settings are set to off. I might add that the app was removed and reinstalled last night.
