Are A-Spec AI cars tuned?

I'm currently trying out the Gallardo Trophy, which I thought would be really fun since I thought the playing field would be even. So I start racing and notice that on the Rome circuit, Turn 3 (that long sweeping one), the AI seemed to have much more grip than my stock 552hp Gallardo on sports hard. Then I noticed that they were all beating me down the straights too. I had to race as hard as I could just climb one measely position. Then I look on the typical opponents list, and I see the Gallardos the AI are running have 591hp. So does this mean they're modified, or is this just a typo?

I assume they are modified, not 100% sure tho

No, the AI in that even runs stock Lambos on Sport Soft Tires.

A common misconception but no, they are not stock. They do have extra horsepower, as the OP discovered. Breaking the car in will not produce an extra 40 horsepower, nor will it allow you to keep up in a straight line, all other things being even. This does make for a pretty fun challenge however if you do run with your car stock.

There are a number of races where the AI is not stock(ignoring tires obviously), although I'm not currently aware of any lists of which races have modified cars. From memory I do remember that the 512BBs in the Ferrari races have a lot of extra horsepower(not that it helps them much) and that the Camaro LM Race Car in GT All Stars(I think that's the series, first time you encounter them) is running with dramatically reduced horsepower. Other than that I don't know. Unfortunately no AI car ever has an upgraded transmission which causes them all sorts of problems in a variety of races.

A challenge I don't think I'm quite up to lol, I can't pass 6 cars in 5 laps unless I do some "aggressive maneuvering" during the first turn, and that isn't fun. Is there a way of telling what tires the AI run? I ended up beating them using 600hp Gallardo with some Suspension and LSD tuning to get rid of that god awful AWD understeer. But, when it came to tyre choice, I want to choose the same as the AI so it is atleast a little competetive.

There isn't any place where it tells you beforehand what tires they are running. To be sure, you can start an event then start a race and either run it once or quit after a few moments to create a replay(and cycle a day in the used car dealer). Then you can watch the replay and switch to viewing the other cars to see what tires they have on.

In B-Spec mode I believe the opponents always use the best tires that it will let you equip. The A-Spec equivalent races usually use the same ones but I'm not sure if this is always the case. So you can get an idea by checking what it will let you use in B-Spec. Other than that, you just have to guess, although you can often make it an educated guess based on the cars you will be racing if you remember the other events. And of course if they keep up with you in the corners they are probably on much better tires than you. The only way to know for sure however is to check a replay. Seasonals always seem to have the AI on the best tires you can use(not that this has any relationship to the standard A-Spec events).

From memory, I do think the Gallardos in that race run on Sports Softs, as tronrider345 said.

In most cases they are indeed. They are most likely fitted with sports parts and in some cases they are even detuned. You can see it in the Typical Opponents tab before each race. In some races you can even hear the A.I's cars have performance exhausts.

In the Toyota Yaris/Vitz race, I always thought it was impossible to keep up in the stock Yaris they gave you.

I think they're detuned actually. Well, it would explain why they're soooooooooooooooo slooooooooooooooow! :sly:

In the lambo event, all the cars have upgraded exhausts by the way they sound.

Damn now your just makin me feel bad :p. I gotta hop back on and practice some more, can never be fast enough haha.

I beat that in a stock Yaris yesterday.:)

Just focus on corner exits. :) Speed will come naturally. :)

I was speaking generally, I've not even tried the event you're doing. Maybe you just need to find the right car & set up combo. All the best!

👍

Yeah, I played a lot of Forza before coming to GT5, so I'm still figuring out GT5's handling model. Forza was more about corner entries, you had remember to brake in a straight line to keep your car stable, otherwise you'd be off even in a FF car. But I love GT5 handling, its so much easier to drive fast consistently.

I've played a little bit of Forza 3 and it's actually not bad at all for an Arcade racer. It's easy to enjoy unlike other racers. But once you get used to GT's physics you'll find it hard to go back to any other physics model in console racing games.

Then again, neither game really has a good physics model.

This isn't really the place to discuss it, but I found my real-life driving experience at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park to be entirely different from any game.

The fact remains, though, that GT5 is more accurate. Braking late is an immediate error something like 90% of GT5 players seem to make in A-Spec. Just try to brake at a reasonable point, get the car pointed for the exit, and get back going again.

Omniscient, HuskyGT and I mentioned it, compared the physics models. No big deal, really.

Back on-topic, how's the OP doing with the race? Dare I ask?

Finished it after tuning that damn Gallardo:tup:. I hate driving AWD cars, they always are a bit too understeer-y for me. Had to use some pretty crazy suspensions and alignment settings to even put a dent in the understeer though. And after getting my gallardo to 600bhp with some Sports Medium, was able to win easily, although I had to restart a couple time, because I kept spinning out braking for Turn 1 in Rome.
