I know that somebody posted something about this a few weeks before but i don´t find the post, could you tell me your opinion about LM cars?

For example, a Subaru Impreza LM Edition with 600hp!...the same for other cars like Arta NSX,Castrol Tom's Supra, etc

Because JGTC cars are real ;)
Is that so?

Thx in advance ;) :)

Some are and some aren't. Generally anything with a LM Edition designation is the work of Polyphony, cars like the Castrol Supra are modelled on the real cars

yeah the LM cars are real, just the body style might be a little differed...

the subura impreza like the one above is racing currently in the JGTC tourney!

Yes, most are real cars... or at least are modeled after them. I think the initial horsepower on most of the cars is about what they raced at. Once you add some horsepower modifications to these cars, then they suddenly become way more powerful than they ever were in real life.

No, they are not real.
There MAY be people that build cars that are simmilar, but any car with the designation LM is a "Dream Car." Thats why you race them in the "Dream Car" races. This isnt to say that there arent 600hp Imprezas racing somewhere, but that the one in the game does not have a real life counterpart, such as the "Zexel Skyline" or "Castrol Supra" do. Those are real cars, digitized.

My best evidence is this.
1000 hp 4WD FTO - Dosent Happen
700? hp S2000 - Not a Chance
900 hp RX-7 - Not without a rocket in the trunk
Look at badging - Anything sponsored by Polyphony or GT3 is fake

I challenge ANYBODY to find a car in real life that is an LM car in GT3

The Cusco Impreza was in GT2 I think, but its not the LM. The Cusco is Rear Wheel Drive, like all gt300 cars.

You may say "close enough" but my point is that it isnt real, or it would claim to be.

It doesn't get much closer than this ...

http://www.webtick.com/igorsush/r390.htm

I assume there was some legal reason for why they didn't just make it a Calsonic R390, but that doesn't float with me because they made the Calsonic Skyline (and all its little friends ...)

http://www.webtick.com/igorsush/rgt-r.htm

Anywho ... I agreed with you until I sat back down at the PS2 and saw the R390 LM Race Car sitting in front of me in pole possition.

... and after playing that race and watching the R390 LM Race Car come BLOWING PAST ME (right into the dirt, where it sat for a few seconds) ... I realized that it IS in fact the Calsonic R390. I wonder why they named it "LM Race Car" ... maybe it's related to all the typoes in the scrolling text when you go to tune various parts of the car ... or many of the other text based errors that we've all noticed in the game.

I do know that the Arta NSX and Tom's Supra are real, the Calsonic Skyline, Raybrig NSX, Denso Sard Supra, and the Zexel Skyline are real, they are JGTC cars.

The Toyota GT1, R390 GT1 LM, and 787b are all real, the Toyota and R390 raced at Le Mans in 1997 (R390), 1998 (R390 and Toyota), and 1999 (Toyota). The 787b raced there in I think 1991 or 1993.

The Arta NSX and Castrol Supra are the real deal too.

Maybe someone has made a page with pictures of all the real cars. Or maybe someone should (:

The only one I've found is the R390 ... which I don't count, because I think it just got named wrong in the game. I think he's pretty much correct with his statement:

Look at badging - Anything sponsored by Polyphony or GT3 is fake

Except I wouldn't say "fake". I would call them 'dream cars'. They can be created, but it would be difficult at best. The only one I can think of anyone getting close is the RX-7. I've seen RX-7s approaching 800hp, but heavily modified. If Mazda wanted to produce a 'manufactured' Rotary engine to do 900hp, I don't think it would be difficult. It's been 10 years since the 787B performed and won at La Mans, and the production rotary engine has greatly improved in 10 years. Surely the 'race bread' rotary can do the same.

Once again, I am a rotor head. Please don't hate me (:

Hmm.... okay. Regardless, the modified horsepower in this game is insane, and it seems that in fact the LMs are not real. (I assumed that they were from other series - heck, I had never heard of JGTC until GT).

Some cars get so much hp that they would be disqualified in some series.

and i doubt lmp 900 drivers want to race against 1200 hp porsches

(LOL)

I actually quite like the 787B. It seems to me that any car with a ridiculously lurid paintjob can win...:D

Seriously, it made me think otherwise about Rotary engines. I used to think that they were slow, cumbersome and old fashioned...then I was humbled by the RX-7 and the 787B...:o

I stand corrected.
The Nissan r390 is denoted as an LM race car, and it is a direct replica of the Calsonic R390.

I dont know why this is, except that LM might stand for something different like LeMans or something, but it is the exception rather than the rule.

As for an 800 hp rx-7, I'll believe it when I see a dyno.
MAYBE if you had one of the japanese 3 rotor engines, MAYBE.
Ive heard of a couple in the 500 range.

Unfortunately, there is no race bred rotary nowadays.

Well, I wouldn't say you were wholey wrong in the first place. I think GT3 is full of typoes.

I've wondered what LM stood for on several occations. Does anyone really know?

The big RX-7 I saw could possibly be a fake, and it's been a couple years, so theres no telling. Personally I think it'd be a waste to jack the HP that high on a car like that. It defeats the purpose of a "fun to drive" car. It would be so out of control that I'd be afraid of killing myself to drive it.

Yes, it sucks that no one is racing with a rotary engine right now. It could be so much better technology, but then again, it would be a lot of work to get it there. I do think it could be better than the piston engine could ever be, if both were given enough time and research.

Oh well, se la vi (sp?).

I personally believe it stands for Le Mans, as most GT or GTS class cars tend to look like the LM Dream Cars when they are competing at Le Mans 24 Hours or the ALMS. Some believe it stands for Limited Model and that could be plausible as well, as these cars are rare in the game. :D

all those stats u mentioned above are with the car fitted with a turbo charger.....

the stock cars have around 512-570 BHP which is very real.....

i have a life, unlike you, and don't spend too much of time researching this kinda stuff....

sorry if i am wrong, but seriously bro, u take little details a little too seriously...

That's true. GT3 has the extra turbo charger or engine tune up for every race car. Look at the Escude for goodness sake!

Which is about what I was getting at with the RX-7. So I was ~100 hp off (:

"Approaching" ... meaning in the mid 700s.

A) Turbocharger or not, the figures expressed are not REALISTIC. A turbocharger isnt horsepower on a spindle. GT3 creates ridiculous horsepower figures to make the game faster. (I have yet to see a turbo s2000)

B) what are "the stock cars" that have 512-570 hp? Do you mean NASCAR? Those are Normally Aspirated 351s putting out like 770hp. If you mean a "stock" fto, s2000 or RX7, you're incorrect. The rx-7 has 276 (every year) the s2000 has 240 (not positive) and the FTO has like a hundred and something. Add them together perhaps...

C) suck my ass. I've been around racing and cars in general for a LONG time, so what you are hearing is experience, not research. dont blame your stunning lack of automotive knowledge on my having a hobby dealing with the subject matter. Making personal slanders wont make anybody think that you are cooler. There are those on this board that respect my input as I have shown that I do in fact know what I am talking about. Is having a life difficult when you make 550 posts in two months? (couldnt resist)

D) Correct and Incorrect isnt a "detail" its the answer to the question. The original post was (more or less) incorrect. If you tell your professor that you chose answer C because the difference between C and the correct answer is a "detail" how far do you think that would get you?

So if you cant contribute something constructive, try reading and learning.

Loudmusic, the horsepower figures for the escudo are exaggerated. On the 1996 escudo (i dont know if it has raced since) the power at the crank was under 1000 hp. This is a real number. TWO turbocharged V6 engines can EASILY create 1000 hp. The skyline and supra engines are 6 cylynders and capable of over 1000 hp individually. My point is that nobody has mad anywhere near 1000 hp from the FTO 2.0L v6. There arent turbines big enough that arent mounted on 747s.

I'm not sure what youre talking about with your rx-7, but yes, there are very fast RX-7s around. I would just be VERY suprised to see on with 800 hp, or even 600 hp. Thats a LOT of power. On a 20b engine (3 rotor) I can almost see this on a fully converted drag machine, but nothing short of that.

hey guys, I´m not sure but I think i found a FTO LM:

fto_main.jpg

And a RX7 ¿LM edition?:

07_002601.jpg

Doesn't look like an FTO LM to me - looks more like a road car with those skinny little, pretty wheels, high suspension and no spoiler. It's even got a number plate! A group N rally car I suspect, especially with those mudflaps.

For "Loud Music" the 787B has so much power because it is a quad rotor rotary...4!! 4 rotors! and is turbo so it does get more power than an rx-7 could

its also a RACING engine.
there is a big difference between a corvette 351 and a Nascar 351. There is as big of a difference between a rotary racing engine and a rotary driving engine. Racing engines are designed to last for a very short period of time, at great expense and great power. If you had to replace you car's engine every 500 miles at a cost of $500,000, you would probabally find another car. There are plenty of turbo RX-7s running around, but even with a 20b engine (3 rotor, VERY RARE) you arent going to get 3/4 of the power you could from a 4 rotor RACING engine unless you build it like racers build it.

I think what we're all talking about here, is that an unmodified 'race car' in GT3 is fairly realistic, but doesn't necassarily exist. What makes it so utterly impossible is the option to add the extra turbo, or engine tune up, that puts the horse power up in the 900s.

IT'S A FRIGGEN GAME! How about you guys go be obsessed with something more ... real, like a woman!

:D  :rotfl:
I guess that's what makes the GT series. The fact that it is so realistic that we GT players around the world all have to be obsessive and argue about all aspects of it...:argue:
