Are Rally Cars Road Legal?

It depends on a zillion factors.

But in the UK and as prepped for Rally GB, yes they are road legal in the UK.
 
Well during a local event here the rally cars have to drive to different stages on the public road so I guess they are.

Then again isnt it true if you pay a tax and put a flashing yellow light you can drive a tank on british roads?
 
I think they get special dispensation to become road legal, but they are still road legal. They need to be registered and driven between stages.
 
They wouldn't have number plates if they weren't road legal.

They are road legal since they travel on open road sections between stages. If those number plates technically are legal is another matter though :p

I think there is also a rule that for it to be able to be registered on the road with all of its racecar-ness (roll cage, harnesses etc) you need to prove that it does a certain amount of races per year, or something. That was in New Zealand, anyway.

makes sense, proves your racing & not just exploiting a rally car
