Are the T598 Pedals that bad?

Only thing holding me back from this wheel is the bad things I heard about the pedals. All I really want is a quiet DD wheel. If the G29 wasn't so loud, I'd have been ok with that set-up. Are the pedals at least as good as what I just tried? (G29's)

I've had a G25 for 15 years, a G29 and a G923 for a short while, a T-GT II for four years and now a T598, and of those the T598 has easily the best pedals. Sturdy metal construction and customizable stiffness and positioning right out of the box.

I have a strong feeling most of those saying the pedals are bad either haven't even tried them but downplay them by default as there isn't a clutch, dismiss the T598 as a whole because it's "cheap" with only 5 Nm of torque and the wheel rim is plastic and rubber, or are those who want rock hard load cells on their 15 Nm thumb ripping setups with four digit price tags. If you just want pedals that do their job, they're perfectly fine. And the 5 Nm figure definitely isn't weak either.

Even though you touched on the wheel, could you say the same for the buttons? This review thought they were not so great. I really wish they'd have kept the triangle etc... buttons on the right.

The button placement is a matter of getting used to. To put it into perspective, the G25 didn't have buttons or the D-pad on the wheel at all - they were all on the shifter, with the exception of one per side - and it was perfectly manageable with a bit of familiarization.

In my case, coming from the T-GT with a "normal" layout the biggest thing actually isn't where the action buttons are, it's where the pause button is. My muscle memory still looks for it further to the right but the X and circle are pretty much exactly where the normal triangle and circle would be, and you can map them to whatever you want anyway. I'd go as far as to say that they're better placed for racing than the normal layout as you have two thumbs to use instead of basically one, but menus are naturally a different thing. Then again triangle and square are seldom used in them and at least I always have a controller at hand anyway regardless of the wheel.
