Are there any good Japanese designs anymore?

As far as I'm aware. I hope they don't call it "MX-3" though.

I'd soooooooo buy that car! I have a feeling they will call it an MX-3 though. :indiff:

Talk is that it'll be called "MX-4", as it's largely MX-5 based but with MX-3 design cues. Due next year, I think, as an entry level RX-8.

RX-9 Concept[/center]

Your picture of the RX-9 concept is nothing but a photoshop done by a member of RX8club.com. It's a mix of Mazda3 and FD3S RX-7.

This on the other hand is another unofficial photoshop that I wish exists....

I wonder which Subaru designer decided to design the Impreza to look like every other Japanese sporty 5-door not to mention with that ugly grille.

Are they gonna seriously make the Kabura/MX-3 concept??

My speculation is that we'll eventually see it with a more "Mazda-flow" like styling on the front end sporting the new 16X Direct Injection rotary engine hopefully called an RX-9.

WTH happend? I really do wonder what the "stylists" at many of the Japanese auto makers are smoking these days...
Well, what they are smoking is continual reviews that call things bland. For the last 5 years or so, most car makers have been doing anything they can not to be dubbed "bland", even if it means making a hideous car.

Personally, I'd take a clean, well-proportioned, somewhat anonymous car instead of an over-designed, tarted-up standout any day. But there must only be a handful like me in the world, because nobody designs for us any more. at all.

At least you get anonymous license plates in your state.

If you want anonymous, Chevrolet dealers probably have a few old-style Malibus left over. Heck, they even made fun of it in their own commercials. There's always Honda, save the Accord. But in another 6 months, it will blend in with the crowd.

Call me biased but I think the FD3S RX-7 was the last great japanese designed car made. Before that (being slightly biased once again) It'd be a tie between the FC3S (S4 and S5) RX-7 and the Mitsubishi Starion.

That's too easy. Post this, and try yawning again. :D

Of course! I love the LF-A as well, its such a radical change for Lexus to go there... But lets be honest, one good car can't make up for the rest of the company. Toyota has done an absolutely horrible job with their new style program. Even Ford has figured out how to make decent looking cars again, where did they go wrong?

Just one?

As far as the exterior designs go, I think this car is near the top in it's class. Definitely nowhere near ugly. ES might be boring to your taste, but it's beautiful in my eyes. First time that happened is in this generation, and it's still based on Camry.

I'm not about to post the entire lineup of Lexus, but even the series like RX, GS, LS, etc.; they might not all be my cup of tea, but they are not bad designs. I'm gonna have to disagree on Lexus.

P.S. Ford is getting better. But I believe that's because of the vast room they had to improve. And they still messed up their key car: Focus. ;)

-> The ES has a good sense of balance in a conservative/laid-back kind of way, I like it.

-> The 2nd-gen ver.2 Eclipse was a tasty design too.

Indeed, I fail to see the difference, minus the non-chrome line on the grille. It looks very similar, and certainly not bad.

On the subject of appealing Subarus:

While no perfect beauty-queens, they're simple, elegant designs. You may call them soul-less, but I'd rather have this in my driveway (and my family has one, sort of, but we don't have a driveway) than Il Monstro, the B9 Tribeca:

Only a JDM fanatic would call the US version "ruined".
^ Well I am a JDM Freaker. :sly:

-> For some point of reason, why its that the Forester ALWAYS looks a lot better than any Impreza since 2002? :indiff:

I disagree. I love the US Legacy.

I think Duke mentioned this on another thread, but Legacy was damn near perfection before that facelift it received. Don't you just hate those "minor changes" that uglifies a fine design just for sake of making it look newer? I still wanna punch Ford in the face for that Focus redesign in 2005. :D
